How long has Sportsday had this strap above the DOG? Not noticed it before:

A month or so now. It's a show slug.

The first day it went live there were some teething problems with it disappearing in reports and appearing again when the gallery cut to a camera in the studio.

Thanks, didn't know the proper name for it and not spotted it before.

We had another one of those classic weekend evenings on the News channel where at 10pm we had a full TOTH and headlines with Chris Rodgers at the catwalk, only for him to say 'viewers on BBC One will be joining us shortly for a full roundup of the news with Kate Silverton' before one report was played. 3 minutes later viewers were greeted with the filler and virtually the same TOTH sequence again with Kate Silverton doing the 10-15 minute summary.

I know some will say, do the viewers really care, does it matter... but that's not really the point. It works perfectly fine for the weekend lunchtime summaries when the News channel presenter does those.

Are we ever going to see an end to this repetition where either the BBC One presenter does the NC late shift encompassing the summary or the News channel presenter does the teatime and evening BBC One summaries? Surely with some clever scheduling it could all be made a lot slicker.

If the BBC News is at five past the hour then it is ridiculous to start a top of the hour on the News Channel.

They should just pad out the previous hour, and then run the countdown up to five past.

I remember the days of the ITV News channel where the presenters would stay on and complete the hour, example here with Nicholas Owen. They would do the main ITV bulletin and say something along the lines of 'join me on the ITV News channel for more on all these stories next'.

I've often thought the BBC could pinch a few ideas from the way ITV scheduled their presenters to cover the News channel and main bulletins.

Especially as they've been a bit looser with hitting the TOTH in recent years anyway - I think they should be doing a headlines sequence at :00 (and that they could schedule the BBC One bulletins better to mean that they don't do the whole thing again five minutes later), but Victoria Derbyshire very rarely hits the 10am TOTH on-time, and I'm sure I caught a TOTH sequence at something like :10 during Newsroom Live yesterday!

I've noticed for the last few weeks the presenter of the News at One has stayed on the News Channel afterwards right up to 2pm. Be interesting to see whether Sophie Raworth does it next time she presents the One.

I suppose it very much depends on who's rota'd to do the News at One. I think someone mentioned that Kate Silverton stayed on after the One the other week?

Bit off topic but how is that from 13 years ago? Still looks like it could be pulled off today and look as sleek. It's mad to think at the same time as that the BBC had N6 set up as a box room with a wood floor. These days the BBC do most of their presentation from a catwalk and ITV comes from a box room with a wood effect floor.

I think I'm right in saying the weekend evening bulletins on BBC1 come under the remit of the editor of the weekday 6/10, and not the NC? So separate editorial teams behind the scenes, unlike at lunchtime, which may make the duty NC presenter doing the network lunchtime a bit easier?

I guess as well the BBC don't want to be seen as 'downgrading' their weekend evening BBC1 bulletins by integrating them into the NC output. (Personally I think the weekend bulletins, especially on a Saturday, are too short and should be extended, which would make the current set up more justifiable. On a busy news Saturday, which does happen fairly often, 10-15 minutes is insufficient, and there will almost always be plenty of sports news to fill up time on a quiet news Saturday. Sundays are usually slightly longer, so not quite such an issue)

Be interesting to see whether Sophie Raworth does it next time she presents the One.

She has done the NC before, about 10 years ago did a few Monday afternoons with Jon Sopel after doing the One
