The graphic was presumably being put on at source as it was on BBC One also.

Why is GB winning gold not news?

It is news, but simulcasting the whole thing on the News Channel including lots of analysis and the rest of the programme isn't necessary, it's obviously only done as a way to fill time in the current era of news channel on a shoe string.

But we've had exactly the same visual look now for BBC News for over 9 years now. The 9 years before that saw 3 or 4 different variations on the look.

It's tired, it needs a refresh, and not merely a change of font, though that will help a little.

Yeah and how did that work out? A really unique and great brand identity designed by Lambie-Nairn 1999 was replaced with a much more amateur looking in-house produced package in 2003, which was revised a number of times, only to be replaced by a more glossy/glassy looking version of it in 2007, only for it to be finally replaced a year later by another great Lambie-Nairn package.

Apart from the improvements to the on-screen graphics/astons, the in-house rebrands between the two LN brand packages didn't really offer anything that could stay on screen for longer than a few years.

When I first noticed the design on BBC World in 2008 I was shocked. While the former design looked very cool, the new opening basicly just consists of a white backgroud and some red stripes (representing a globe) flying around in a ridiculous way.
And the lower thirds were just some white and grey rectangles.

Now I've got used of it, but at first I found it very amateurish, and I was very diappointed.
(But I am not a design expert and perhaps it is a cultural thing)

It's a tricky one isn't it. We're all fans of presentation, so are excited when there are new developments.

I used to love visiting TVF back in the day when there used to be some sneak preview of a new top of the hour, set, or graphics change. This just doesn't seem to happen anymore. Even channel branding is up the creek now.

But I agree that the BBC News brand is fine as it it. It's strong, recognised, and flexible.

I'd just like to see some funky new graphics!

Whoever does the BBC Sport graphics should also do the BBC News graphics.

I know no one who isn't constantly impressed with BBC Sport graphics - hell, all BBC Sport branding.

Their latest refresh is just beautiful.

A revamp is long overdue - and it's not just for the sake of it too. The channel just needs an injection of something new to freshen it up and make it stand proud once again - it's been feeling somewhat unloved for a couple of years.

It's RTS News Channel of the Year! Must be doing something right!

Or simply not as badly as Sky considering both channels have faced major cutbacks in recent years.

I disagree. The 2003 BBC News 24 revamp, offered something that could have been kept going for years through all the different looks, the live rendered headline effect in the title sequence. Unfortunately it ended up being a little bit gimmicky.

The 'clam shell' look was an excellent look, and saw tweaks until 2008. I was a little sad when that went.

I gotta agree with brekkie on this, the channel does feel somewhat unloved at the moment. The fact that it is the current RTS News Channel of the Year is pretty meaningless right now as mostly only BBC News and Sky News get that anyway.

A simple graphical refresh, maybe with the re-introduction of OTS/Window graphics, would give the channel a freshening up feel that it hasn't really had in a long time.
