Sam Taylor has ruined the News Channel. Bring back Kevin Bakhurst and bring back BBC News 24.

Sam Taylor has had to oversee cuts to the NC while providing what is still largely a decent rolling news service. Yes, there are dayparts which aren't to my taste, such as the 9-11 slot and the overnight World News segments, yet they still provide business bulletins, in-vision weather forecasts etc which Sky don't after 10am.

Agreed that Sky News has probably become slightly more stale. I struggle to see how Victoria Derbyshire is saving the channel money, unless BBC Two are paying for it – would far sooner see a return to rolling news. I'm not sure the overnight bulletins garner enough audience to warrant changing – but I wouldn't mind the NC shutting up shop a little later, perhaps with the Newsnight repeat at 12:15 and a full hour at 11.

It looks like 100 Days+ is coming to an end after next week as the News Channel listings on Digiguide show a generic BBC News listings returning to the 7:00pm hour the week after next-BBC4 Also seems to see the return of the 7:00pm edition of World News Today that week as well.

Interesting it's back to World News Today. There had been reports - before 100 Days was extended - that a new edition of Outside Source was going in that slot.

A shame the format is finally being axed for the dull as ditchwater WNT which is basically a generic BBC World News bulletin with a brand name on it.

Agreed London Lite - this was the most refreshing bit of World simulcast for ages. Will be a shame to see it go.

I think that is the case.

Yes it was one of those programme budget manoeuvres where the BBC2 budget pays for about 1/3 of the programme at least that was the deal originally.

It looks like the filler countdown has had a slight update as just before the Early evening BBC1 Bulletin it showed newly updated shots of Clive Myrie and Carrie Gracie replacing the shots of Jon Sopel and President Obama (for obvious reasons) and Ian Panell (due to him leaving.)

Because about 5 people tweeted that they liked it. Running a US-focussed show at 7pm UK time is frankly ridiculous. The whole bloody channel is ridiculous right now to be honest with you.

There was something in the report released this week by the BBC about a need to switch the focus back to UK news during primetime on the news channel.

I think this is the relevant section of the Annual Plan (note also the graphics bit)...
BBC Annual Plan 2017/18 posted:
The BBC News Channel plays a central role for the BBC on major breaking news. It has refreshed its approach over the past two years, including the Victoria Derbyshire show (simulcast on BBC Two) which has broken numerous news stories and driven a broader agenda for BBC News; Business Live, a 30-minute digest of business news and interviews making full use of the BBC’s business journalists around the world; and new data graphics to improve the range of information displayed on screen. This year, it will include a refreshed focus on news from all the UK’s Nations and regions in the evenings, while developing on-screen presentation through the development of augmented reality graphics and further enhancements to on-screen information.

I have to question how much appetite there is for a nations and regions focus in the evening. It's been tried so many times before. Surely a straight news bulletin each hour / half hour is what would serve the biggest potential audience best (i.e. those who get in from work too late for the six).
