I wonder if the BBC News Channel will break away from the 6, what with the still-unconfirmed news of Prince's death.

He would still be dead at 6.30.

Imagine breaking news on a news channel? Shocking concept.

I'm very surprised the death of Prince wasn't mentioned at the end of the 6 o'clock bulletin. Even a quick announcement mentioning his death and announcing further coverage on the News channel would have been better than pretending it hadn't happened.

In fairness they did a few minutes on it mid-bulletin with Lizo Mzimba in the studio.

Did you even watch the programme? As I'm watching the Six O'Clock News on replay now and they mentioned it in some detail at 20 past. So I don't think they pretended it hasn't happened at all....

My mistake. From what I saw it wasn't mentioned.

Goodness knows whats happened on the BBC News Channel, it is now showing an empty seat in Studio C and playing some awful music - as well as a voiceover of someone introducing 'John Cravens Newsround'. At first I thought it was the radio, but its not.

EDIT: Sounds like Phillip Schofield and Childrens BBC?!

Also currently no ticker or clock.

I just put the news channel on to see the same and heard the theme from Dogtanien and the Muskerhounds. Very strange.

16:31 to16:32hrs BBC News Ch, WTF !!!!

Output cut to an empty chair and desk, background of an auditorium, and the audio Philip Schofield's voice announcing John Craven's Newsround.

Either I was dreaming, or it really did happen !

Edit: It did happen !

I wish I could capture it but I can't get the sound to work. Just watching it back on iPlayer, they went live to Downing Street and then cut to this? Maxine Mahwinney seemed completely unaware she wasn't on air. This is one of the most unusual faults I have ever seen.

I think it's the Film Review backdrop. Sounds like someone playing clips from YouTube in the studio. Very strange. Wonder if they accidentally cut to the studio while Esler and Kermode were on a break from rehearsals.
