I actually quite like that Breaking News strap, nice to have a bit of graphics/gradients rather than just a flat red colour.
Stedixon and Mouseboy33 gave kudos

I like the Breaking News sting. Although many members will perhaps consider it unnecessary, I believe it brings a degree of attraction to the otherwise omnipresent Breaking News straps which can be overlooked.

The audible/visible elements of the new sting do attract attention.

From these caps, I agree with James, it looks really good. I remember the Breaking News splash being introduced in 2003 and it used to work well as an attention grabber, especially if the TV was on mute in the background while doing something else. Does anyone happen to have a video example of this new splash in use?

I can imagine it would be especially useful in public areas like airport lounges, hotels or service stations where the channel will be on but the volume low or off.

It's identical to the one used on BBC World News (it's been visible to UK audiences during the World/NC overnight simulcasts for the last month or so).

But it strangely disappears when it goes into the more detailed graphic.

It's alright, but the channel is always branding stories as breaking news. So I can imagine this will not only become dull, it will lose it's impact.

I think it'd be too much as a background for the details strap, but perhaps they could use a similar effect on a right hand side insert like those used occasionally for special occasion graphics.

Or an animation "wipe" thing similar to that in the 2008 graphics.

Just with a little inconsistency breaking is not in bold but it is on Rebecca's screen maybe they should have used that version.

But another splash that BBC World News use is quite unnecessary.
Instead of "BREAKING NEWS", it says... "The Leader in Global Breaking News"

I guess the market place is fragmenting so quickly, with tons of regional players coming online every minutes (it seems like) eating away at the English News market, they have to toot the horn a bit. CNN is constantly saying they are "the worlds news leader" so I guess BBC World needs to do a little tooting as well.
