Funnily enough, a BBC News thread is already running and conversation is going about this sidebar, as posted here by myself.

Sorry if I've missed something here, but what is "PushBack"?
They've changed the colour scheme on the pushback for today. Much better palette.

You can request a thread to be split you know.
The answer to your question was in that thread in any case.

Does anyone reckon BBC News tried using this graphic to try attract people watching on mobile, so almost trying out the BBC Newstream?

What coincidentally shortly after plans for Newstream were shelved. They've had these stupid summary graphics at the side of the screen. They're presumably for the purpose of office workers who have the sound off when they are speaking for a long period of time or cut to a speech but are generally still distracting. The ticker and the bottom thirds are enough really, any other text heavy graphics just scream The Day Today. These, however, do not yet pass the absurdity of the old Sky Sports graphics or the text summaries on the desk on Sky News which would defy parody.
