A bunch of changes announced in the Guardian.
- Newsnight to get 11:15pm repeat on News Channel
- Breaking news dropped between 7pm and 8pm for a best of nations/regions programme.
- Breaking news to be full hour between 8pm and 9pm (impacting HardTalk)
- Victoria Derbyshire extended to start at 9am
- 11am-1pm to be branded Newsroom Live

Another 15 mins of VDP, deep joy. They might as well simulcast Newsnight as well instead of the repeat.

I thought the 7pm bulletin already featured packages from the nations/regions?

Surely if there's any 'BREAKING NEWS' any of the above will be ditched, to carry it ?

Otherwise, it seems like further deck chair movements on the Titantic

So The Papers is now reduced to one airing. Is this five days a week or seven either way more chance of it being dropped for breaking news. Also means one less sports update.

Like i said in another thread last week, They should be going the other way and have more breaking news on the News Channel, not less-I'm Surprised someone hasn't done a freedom of information request on this.

There won't be any staff to cover breaking news. News Channel journalists will all go home at 11.15

The 7pm hour sounds like the former "UK Today" programme that used to air in the early years of News 24.

I've long thought Newsnight should be repeated on the News Channel but I would air it after midnight.

Exactly, it'll be just like BBC World News's schedule - if something major happens it all goes out the window unless they go down the VD root of 'we've just heard there's been a major terrorist attack in London, but first should GPs be able to tell patients to lose weight?'. News 24 Tonight has seemingly returned albeit in a different guise. Not happy about even more VD and am still to be convinced that it isn't more expensive to produce that the rolling news that existed before then. I suppose getting us used to blocks of programming is prepping us for the inevitable merger with BBC World News.

VD could well work out cheaper to produce if BBC2 are willing to pay a share of the costs of that, but wouldn't if it was just the normal rolling news.

Oi, that was my line on the last page Cool

You have to wonder, at what point do the Beeb decide the News Channel is not really managing to fulfil its objective, and do the honourable thing and chuck in the towel ?

I suppose a good job it long ago ditched the '24' in its name. Though everyone still calls it that

I'm surprised that BBC News Channel hasn't really attempted much talk-and-analysis programming in the style of the French news channels (see below). It's relatively inexpensive to produce, it falls within a public service remit, and judging from the seeming popularity of late-night newspaper reviews, there's a demand for it in the UK.
