One occassion where a new thread wasn't required. All news coverage saw significant increases over the weekend and ITV News always performs well covering such events - although there is still clear water on a day to day basis they've closed the gap for the big events quite significantly in recent years and beaten the BBC more than once.
Really though this isn't about ratings, it's about all news organisations delivering at a time when viewers turn to them for reliable information.

Regardless of which broadcaster won each programme, I think the main conclusion to draw from it is just how relevant and in demand rolling TV news still is. Can you imagine if the BBC News Channel did go online only - what a complete waste. It's times like these that social media and mobile devices just don't cut it. Although social media has its place - nothing beats TV news for giving you a sense of being involved and seeing what's happening while still being presented with facts and analysis. It would be a huge loss to British broadcasting if the BBC News Channel was ever allowed to close. I've lived and breathed BBC News, Sky News and ITV News this weekend and each of them has done a fantastic job.

That article referred to last Saturday's bulletin as "ITV's News at Ten". But the late bulletin that is broadcast on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays is not News at Ten.

Not that it matters but BBC news at 6 on both Saturday and Sunday had 7m viewers. ITV's Saturday (5.45) and Sunday (7.30) evening bulletins had 2.2 and 2.5m. The only bulletin ITV "won" was the 9.45 pm bulletin after The X Factor and against the National lottery and just over half the length of the BBC equivalent.
The News at Ten on Friday had 5.75m on the BBC ( after Children in Need) and just 1.3m on ITV.
Read the article and not the headline is always my advice with Media Guardian. BBC dominates news ratings is clearly not click bait material.
What's causing the BBC News to be beaten by ITV News recently?

That's what I was thinking. ITV clearly have very good friends at The Guardian for a headline like that, given the actual context.
