I hate the thing, it's an alright idea, but the graphics are awful, and the one in the Mocks forum is even better!

Fiona was doing the 8pm tonight. I guess this will probably be regular - Kate only did monday-thursday on News 24. I can't say I was that impressed with Fiona tthough, I was suprised to find I actually prefered Kate on this summary.

why does kate keep part turning and pointing to the side and yet the graphic is BEHIND her????

it really looks like she's superiposed onto the screen.

don't think this is a good idea tbh.

I suspect it's like a weather forecast. There is probably a faint projection on the screen, but in green so it still gets CSOd out, and there is almost definitely a screen next to the camera so Kate can see where she's pointing.

No projection - just a green bit of fabric behind Kate... There are floor monitors though.

I'm assuming this is coming from N6's CSO area. What's going to happen when News 24 moves out of N8 and into N6?

Moz, I'm not sure whether you're simply expressing surprise at the idea that N6 even has a CSO area (it certainly surprises me), or whether you're enquiring as to what the above jargon even means in the first place (I'm aware that not all TV Forum members neccesarily know all telly jargon).

Just in case it's the latter, I'll quickly explain...

"N6" is the name of the studio within BBC Television Centre (in Shepherd's Bush, London) that houses the BBC News set currently used for all the main BBC One national news bulletins, including Breakfast , plus a few other things such as BBC News 24's Newswatch programme.

"CSO" (= "Colour Separation Overlay"; also known as "Chroma Key", or even "Green-Screen"/"Blue-Screen" etc). Which means this.

I think the Beeb are the only broadcaster/facility company in the World who use the term 'CSO' to describe 'Chroma-Key'. Does anybody know why ?

It was the former! But thanks anyway! Smile

Yay dragon! As I was reading through this thread I was also busily hunting for the video when I saw to your post at the end. I'm glad some people notice what I slap on YouTube!

Also here are a couple of caps showing the CSO area of N6:
