Yep - I think the use of a coherent "look" for both national and regional elements means that you have to chose a simple style that every region and sub-region can hope to come close to matching.

Given that lots of programmes are going to be moving studios, and turnaround between shows is going to be tighter in London, a CSO solution can be delivered more consistently (and more quickly) than one which relies on physical lumps of set (or in some cases the lack of lumps of set)

It is a pity Kate has a haircut that is probably about as un-CSO friendly as they get. (Pity the BBC don't have any Ultimattes in News...)

Surely though even if the national bulletin was in the studio, a simple CSO replica could easily be created for the regions to use.

why on earth have they invented new logos for the regional programmes which bear no relation to the actual logos?

i know we used to groan at the bbc's over officious branding police, but i don't think there's any excuse for re-inventing logos on a whim. regular weight sentence case gill sans would arguably look more cohesive with the regular weight gill sans of the bbc news logo that precedes it, as opposed to the dodgy bold/light capital gill sans thing they've made up!

also i thought there were guidelines about using the bbc logo repeatedly? did they really need two bbc logos on the regional bit? in fact - did they really need the bbc news bit on the regional bit? i'd argue most people associate 'bbc news' with national stories.

unnecessary willy waving on bbc news' part if you ask me!

On a slightly related note, does anyone think that TV news will come full circle and return to proper, decent, intellectual bulletins, presented by both old and young newsreaders sat firmly behind desks, casting aside all of this gimmickery? I long for that day........

News at Ten is to have a "virtual floor" apparently. So no.

In the East Charlene White presented the Norwich edition, with Janine Machin presenting in Cambridge.

Both editions ended with a weather forecast map which was zoomed in on the sub-regon.

Any chance of any captures anybody? I'd be extremely interested to see the sub-regional Look East weathermaps Smile Cheers

Ever thought that this might be a glimpse of the New Regional BBC News branding?

Did the Nations stick to this style too, or did they do their own thing.

Surprising actually the nations haven't pressed for having the full 90-second bulletin to themselves.

How would that work? Would the emphasis be on "North" in "Look North"? You'd end up with bold/light and light/bold depending on the show name.
