IMO it's totally dumbing down an already weakened news service on BBC1. This sort of bulletin belongs on BB3, at least. If not BBC2, which could do with a mini-news update.

How can it be dumbing down ... it's actually adding a News Bulletin - how can adding News be dumbing down???

I think it depends on the style of the bulletin. If it is a proper, formal summary of the news (like the morning and 1520 summaries) then it could work. If however, it is more informal, hip and trendy with light entertainment stories, then it could be accused of dumbing down. We'll just have to wait and see.

I'm not sure I see the huge importance of this and thus why is it on the front page of the bbc news website. They're calling it a bulletin - it's an news update thingy like they do in the morning. IMO they have enough news reports and bulletins as there is and of course there's BBC News 24.

Doesn't that picture just ooze journalistic credability?

What if we had someone sitting at the desk reading out the news instead of standing up looking like they're posing for Vogue ? And if there was something like the News 24 headline bed playing in the background it would sound a little better. The lack of music makes it seem awkward IMO.

In what sense could they deem the Midlands trial "successful"?

No accidents, she didn't catch fire reading the news and no cameramen were killed in the making of the WM bulletinette.Razz

Totally pointless, being 90 seconds. Why not five or ten minutes, at least?

It has the same content as the Six news but you save 26.5 minutes . Has to be a good thing.
