Anna and Sophie both came in for the morning editorial meeting at around 8am, and left at around 1.45 pm, so were in for around 6 hours.

It may be that Kate comes in later, and has less editorial input into the One, which when it moves to being produced more by News 24, may not be an issue (as there is likely to be less scope for editorial input...)
Is that the same on the other nationals? I'm sure I remember Huw Edwards saying on newsround that he gets in around 10!

That was probably when he was working on the Six O'Clock News. I seem to remember hearing that the Ten O'Clock News presenter goes in at 1600ish.

Nope - when he did the week for newsround, presenting with Ellie Crisell and that girl who won a competition and got to edit the Friday edition...

I seem to remember something similar being shown on the behind the scenes tour of the Ten put up on the website. I seem to remember that the edit meeting was at 1100 and then he'd spend the rest of the day working on the programme.

Surely if he came at 1600 (as another poster suggested) that would be too late to have any real editorial input and to prepare for the Five O' Clock News Hour?

I also remember when Greg Dyke left the BBC and went through the newsroom around 1600, Jon and Louise could be seen, baring in mind that was when they did the 1900-2200 shift on N24. I'd therefore guess that the average N24 shift would be around three hours before going on-air and then up to an hour after they've been on air.

All this talk of sidelining... are you suggesting Kate and Louise should be sidelined in favour of Jane?

Could be nothing, but notice on all the press releases it's "...and Kate will be taking over presenting duties when Sophie Raworth goes on maternity leave..."

When - surely it should be while sophie's on maternity leave Confused
Taking over - I thought they normally said 'covering for' or 'presenting' not taking over!

Makes me suspicious! Still - where else could Sophie go? I doubt she'd be back on the six, surely George/ Sian have that covered, and she wouldn't want the hours!

PLEASE LET SOPHIE RETURN TO THE ONE!

I suspect one of them might end up on the 6pm news if George hosting solo is judged not to have worked in a few months time.

Talking timing, admittedly he was in for the Evening News too but for a period after Mark took over the News at Ten Thirty he'd also be featured in the Lunchtime News saying what was coming up on the Evening News - so was certainly around by midday.

Maybe this is why they're all on four day weeks!

Yawn! Another thread hijacked by discussions on News Presenters' rotas! Why do people find this so fascinating?

Back to the topic and Kate Silverton's website says that she will only present the 8pm bulliten until March, when she takes over on the one - ie she won't do both.

It's also worth noting she's not on News 24 and there's nothing about her continuing on News 24 on her website...

Kate Silverton's official Website posted:

Kate is delighted to announce that she will be launching the new BBC 8pm News bulliten which launches on Monday 10th December. Kate will continue to report for Panorama and carry out more foreign assignments for BBC News. From March, Kate will present the One O'Clock News when Sophie Raworth takes maternity leave.

In the 'This week' box it says...
Quote:
Kate Silverton will present the new 8pm bulliten from 10th December to March 2008 when she will present the One O'Clock News while Sophie Raworth takes maternity leave

So who'll present from March? Emily Maitlis? Louise Minchin? And does this leave Carrie with News 24 Smile
