If the writing is as terrible as the dumbed down Kaplinsky pilots, then I despair.

If the writing is as dumbed down as the Kaplinsky pilots they may as well bring in Ellie off Newsround to read the bulletin. Wink

Good idea. I myself would rather listen to stories about panda bears than stories about Paris Hilton.

People on here seem to think "it's a long day at work" for somebody to present the One o'clock news AND then an 8pm update. But surely such long days are not unusual in the world of the media, and if Kate works such hours surely it's by choice as much as anything becuause she's being given the opportunity to raise her profile and take her career onto the next level. I am sure SHE won't be complaining.

Also, Diane Oxbery - co-presents the BBC Radio Manachester Breakfast show from 6am 5 days a week, and is STILL around to present the weather on North West Tonight at 6.50pm. Now THAT's a long day!!

To be fair I think she goes home in between, as the Breakfast show ends at 9am and then it's Heather Stott who usually does the Radio Manchester Weather reports and the Weather on the Lunchtime North West Today.

Same goes for Tony Livesey, he does the Breakfast Show on Radio Lancashire, and the Sport for North West Tonight, which means he works in two different locations per day, and usually does a bit or two in London aswell.

Do people think that Jane Hill has been side lined by the bbc... Louise Minchin and Kate Silverton now seem to be more senior ... being promotedto doing the 1 over Jane when she seemed to be the main cover for the 1 and even the 6 - I do hope that Sophie gets the 1 back after mayernity and that Kate does not sneak in by the back door.... unless they put Sophie back on the 6

Why would Jane Hill want to be stuck in a studio in London when she could be spending half the year sunning her self in Portugal?

Because now she's stuck in a London studio doing the same shift all year round compared to before when she was main/ 2nd relief presenter for the 1 and 6!

And don't forget Ben Brown too! For a long last winter Jane was the relief presenter on the six, often presenting with Natasha. Now they tend to use Ben Brown more than even Dermot (though he's off soon).

I senserely doubt this is Jane's choice either or why else would she have agreed to be a main relief presenter all these years! I can't honestly see her moving on anywhere at the beeb now - what a shame!

Jane definetely seems to have been sidelined. It all started when Sian went on maternity leave as Kate covered her and Louise got her first chance at regularly appearing on BBC One. Clearly they both impressed somebody and now have been given regular BBC One shifts in favour of Jane. There could still be a possibility of Jane getting back though, for example if Louise covers Breakfast more often rather than Kate from now on Jane could be the One deputy instead.

Does ANYONE on this forum actually take into account the idea that:

a) these presenters may be HAPPY with their shift; or
b) they may find the shifts they do more convenient?!?

All of this talk of people being 'sidelined' just sounds like bullsh*t to me.

So tell me - why would Jane suddenly have changed her mind about BBC One bulletins after doing them for years alongside News 24 work? What are the chances of it being a coincidence that Kate and Louise are both given oppurtunites and suddenly they're used all the time on BBC One and Jane isn't?

Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't it Jane Hill who was on shift in Portugal for more or less the whole time - surely she has reached her quota and she simply doesn't want to work overtime?
