I've merged the revamp speculation topic into this existing one. It looks like a lot of The Times speculation is based on what the Guardian reported back in September...
BBC News at Ten may be given longer slot
Flagship news programme could be extended until 10.45pm as part of shakeup of evening schedule

With regards to Newsnight moving out of studio B I could only really see that happening if they were then going to simulcast it on the News Channel, meaning they could then theoretically use studio E. That said I'm inclined to think The Times have assumed that bit as an excuse to rehash old news.

If ITV has only added enough viewers to reach 2 mil (which is half of the 4m the BBC gets at 10pm), what's the worry?

Stick to your strengths, don't fix what's not broken, etc etc.

This isn't a response to anything ITV have done, it's been reported that this may happen for a while and the extended programme was trailed during the election. Obviously reporting this as a battle between the shows make for better copy but I don't think it's actually the truth.

So for once someone starts a thread which clearly deserves it's own topic and the mods move it into a thread which is about something else completely. Thumbs down

Agree this isn't a response to ITV and frankly a revamp in any form is long overdue - the opportunity was very much missed when they moved to Broadcasting house.

I have to agree. I'm baffled as to why this was merged with this thread.

On a presentation point of view, if the 10 moved into B as suggested, which studio would Newsnight end up in?

The name of the thread might be less relevant, but as Charlie Wells says, the Times article appears to stem from the Guardian article he posted on page 2.

The BBC is preparing to lengthen its late evening news bulletin by an expected 10 minutes, creating an overlap with the beginning of Newsnight.

The move follows a trial in the five months leading up to last May’s general election, during which regional news coverage was doubled to 15 minutes, and comes at a time when questions have been raised by ministers about whether the News at Ten should be competing head to head with its ITV counterpart.

Article doesn't really say much. It was thought the added content would be national news not local this time, and this article doesn't confirm this either way.

If it's national it's added journalism, if it's local its just padded out repeats from teatime and an overall reduction.

Very disappointing if the One - national and/or regional - gets cut back to fund overlapping late evening news/current affairs on BBC1+2
