This may be a little geeky to point out, but just before the 0400 TOTH, they played out one of the countdowns in full.

Although I've seen many 57s and 58s countdowns, particularly during the overnights and at weekends, this is the first time that I've seen a complete countdown playout, from 59:24 on the clock and right from the very beginning of the music.

To pick up on the point about the tickers, I find them useful on rolling news channels as they can provide a fairly quick recap of the main points of the story whilst coverage focuses on other stories. However, there would be no need for them on national bulletins as they'd just clutter up the screen and wouldn't really be able to give any extra information given that the bulletin is providing a detailed round-up of the main stories anyway.

The biggest problem I find with N24's ticker is that it is too slow and takes too long to complete a cycle. I'm sure it could be sped up a bit.

Did anyone see the 'Whenever You need To Know' advert with all the correspondents on BBC One just now. I think it was different to the original version, for example they'd got rid of the bit about being the only one to have a correspondent in Gaza, had put in new footage for correspondents that had changed location and it ended with Huw rather than Ben Brown. I'm sure I haven't seen that version of the advert before, was that the first time it was shown?

If Huw Edward was in the National News studio, it was shown very briefly when the adverts first appeared a few months ago and then disappeared, but I haven't seen it recently.

I believe there are 3 variations of this promo. One ends with National News Studio, One ends with News 24 and the other with BBC World. I believe they were all made for the relevant channels.

The new one has been refreshed with new location shots inserted. It is a little different to the original for the National version.

Indeed. Strange it still uses the original 1999 bed though.

I'm sure it could even be speeded up, but then it would probably be about as legible as the credits on US sitcoms!

I never realised it was 'speeded' instead of 'sped'! I've always said 'sped', unless it's a Yorkshire thing. Confused

Speaking of speeding things up, does anyone remember the reason why N24 increased the speed of the rotating globe in 2006 to a ridiculously fast pace?
