Erm, so when can we expect the Sky News, ITV News, and the regional news threads to be separated out between two separate threads ?

Or was it only a one thread problem for itsrobert ?

Could someone please explain the tweaks to news 24 since the original revamp?

Don't forget the tweak which moved the clock into the safe area. Whilst I don't agree with the reasons (do people not have watches or clocks?), I have to say that now I'm used to it, I think it looks a lot better.

I hate the way they use the breaking ticker - fairly good idea, but badly used. Why run details that are already on screen in place of other news?

Agree wholeheartedly with both those points.

When they moved the clock I thought it was a mistake, but looking at caps of it white on red and on the left now it just looks poo. Much better now.

Another tinker was when the name wiped left to right and their job wiped right to left, but this was short lived.

I just hope they introduce the News 24 graphics - including DOG, clock and ticker - onto Breakfast and the 1, 6 and 10 when 24 moves into N6.

We're testing the water with this one first. I expect the others will be done soon enough.

I can just about see BBC One bulletins having a DOG, but I can't see why they would need the clock and ticker as well. A ticker is used to aid to the telling of rolling news, and thus is appropriate on a rolling news channel (especially during News 24's simulcasts of BBC One's bulletins). But BBC One is not a rolling news channel, and a ticker would surely be seen as distracting during flagship bulletins like the Ten. Don't think that's going to happen!

I agree 100%. I'm not a fan of tickers at the best of times but they definitely shouldn't be used on network bulletins. They're OK on news channels as an alternative source of news (handy if you have it on mute for instance), though.

TBH, I prefer CNN's ticker, the 'flipper'. It's the only decent aspect of CNN's pres, IMO, and I'd certainly like to see more channels adopt the idea.

A ticker on the nationals would be a big no-no. They'd be too distracting and the nationals are there to do a different job to News 24 - therefore no need for a ticker.

[*]If I remember correctly, the 'rumble' at the start of the titles has gradually reduced in length.

On the National titles this is certainly the case for the main progs 1, 6, 10 it has been reduced to 3 seconds as opposed to the original 5 seconds. The News 24 titles start drone however is still the same length as it always was at 2 seconds. However if you watch the Saturday news update on BBC One at lunchtimes News 24 still use the original 5 second drone title set. I pressume this is to try and allow for cleaner opt ins for BBC One.

As nice as the flipper idea is, it's not very practical in a news environment. Aljazeera seem to be constantly struggling to keep what they need to say inside the necessary parameters. I prefer the ticker. Have never found it distracting and quite frankly can't understand the people that do. Especially the BBC News 24 one...its so slow.

That only lasted a month or so, on BBC World at least.

Yep they have now reverted back to the 'white flash' text.
