Wonder what happened to the bloke on the right? Never thought he'd get anywhere in BBC News!! Wink

Laughing In his days as Chief Political Correspondent there. It's amazing that until he took over the Six in May 1999, he was relatively unknown. Just four years after that, he was lead on the Ten and thus the top presenter at BBC News.

Did he do any presenting before he got the 6? If not it was a hell of a jump, and gamble by his bosses!
To be fair how did most BBC1/ ITV anchors get there before the days of rolling news channels?

By being stand-ins, regional presenters etc. He went from nowhere to the main anchor of the most watched news programme!

He had presented the 6 o'clock news in the virtual era - I remember him with Martyn Lewis in 1995 or 96.

Breakfast News
He was a known face as a political reporter, plus he was a secondary anchor on the Six from about 1994 or so, plus he was a semi-regular on Breakfast News....so hardly coming from nowhere!

And in fairness by his standards it wasn't handled too badly Laughing

Another classic. Not quite as amusing as this one from last January:

Haha, you have to admit he has a sense of humour that lightens up the channel from time to time.

That's all very well - the problem comes if there is serious breaking news on his shift (though thankfully that doesn't happen often) as he sometimes struggles. I preferred it when he used to relief present on the Five O'Clock Hour, but he seems to have stopped now.

Well we all can make a cock up - as proof of this look at the above post. It aint John Sissons - but Peter Sissons. Peter is human like the rest of us and does make mistakes. Wink

Yeah but if you watch the clip you'll realise that was an intentional pun by the poster.
