Really naff handling of tonights late news for BBC One on News 24 just then. Just went straight into it without warning. You could also still see Anita sat there on the opening shot even though she is not part of the bulletin. Is this what the future of the BBC is going to be like? Cut & Shove bodge it jobs?

The teatime bulletin was no better, David. I was quite engaged with an interview when it suddenly cut to the National titles without warning. I sincerely hope this is not a indication of things to come.

That's just not true. I was watching - they came to the end of a story, Peter Sissons said something like, "and it's now time for a summary of the news as we're joined by BBC One viewers" and it went cleanly to the titles.

Are we both talking about the 4.15pm bulletin? I'm pretty certain I remember it cutting from a pre-recorded interview to the titles. I don't recall hearing Peter Sissons saying that.

I remember today there was a strange thing at 15 past an hour (not sure if it was 4 or 5) when the report was interupted and the titles came along. Peter than started with the news like it was the begining of the bulletin.
I was suprised but now I see what it was.

Yes that's the one I saw. I'm fairly certain it was 4.15pm. Actually, it definitely was 4.15pm, because at 5.15pm I was eating my dinner and didn't have the TV on. As you rightly said, the titles just interrupted a report without so much as a mention from Peter Sissons.

Things were going on at 1am as well. There were no headlines after the countdown, it cut straight to the titles. The '24' didn't appear, and Alistair Yates introduced it as "Welcome to BBC News, I'm Alistair Yates" Confused Are they rebranding as the BBC News Channel? Anyway, a few miutes later a VT report froze and the autocute also went haywire.

No, its always been BBC News from 0100-0500GMT

They just started with the opening and no headlines because it was a summary for BBC World.

I must admit I was watching 1 & N24 & noticing that the N24 presenters still appearing on the usual set very close to the BBC1 time & wondering 'Is BBC1 some how having a separate bulletin?'

Surely Chris & Anita are fairly well known to BBC1 viewers through their reporting anyway, so they could've done the simulcast anyway!

(or failing that swop the N24 shifts so the likes of Tim Wilcox or anyone who also broadcasts on BBC1 were there anyway, instead of bringing in a separate presenter just for 15 mins!)

What about the weather afterwards?

Jay Wynne on BBC1, while Susan Powell was on N24.

They were both saying the same thing at the same time!

Why didn't both channels cut to the one forecaster?

(I assume N24 was on tape, while BBC1 was being routed via presentation.)

Great to see Stuart Flinders (of NW Tonight) back on News 24 today, presenting the afternoon shift from midday. He made his first appearance on News 24 a couple of months back when working with Louise. He's another good safe pair of hands - hope to see more of him.

Interestingly, Nick did the Politics Show summary from TC7, Stuart did the first 15 minutes in the left hand pod upto the quarter heads on News 24, and then handed back to Nick at the desk, saying he'd be "back at 1 o'clock" for the afternoon shift. Nick had obviously been to TC7 and back again in this time. Constructive use of resources?

I think Kate has a VERY secure position at BBC News, by the sounds of an article that will appear in tomorrow's Media section of the Independent. The title is something like ''Why Kate turned down a million pound salary so she could remain at the BBC'' complete with smarmy/gloaty picture of the woman herself.

Anyone would think you were jealous of anyone that works for the BBC?

You haven't seen the picture that went with it.

They shot her from below so half her face was in shadow. Two bolts either side of her peepers would have been out of place.

And with a grin that puts Kay Burley's efforts on Dancing on Ice to shame it looks like the interview should be an absolute stonker.

That's because BBC World crosses to News 24 at 1am, and remains simulcasting until (?) 5/6am. Therefore the BBC World/News 24 branding can't be used.

Worked very well imo.
