Well I can't believe for a minute anyone can think Jane is a poor Presenter & Journalist. She is quite simply one of the best in her field of work. Last year she was in Portugal at simply a moments notice to cover the Mcann story and she did a great job. I think some people are getting confused with a snippet of her when she was in Portugal being featured on the BBC's Storyfix checking her hair in the mirror. When you are covering such a major story going out live on several outlets and expecting people to take you seriously then appearances are very important. Jane has been with BBC News 24 since day one and originally started by being the main overnight anchor (which included the joint BBC World bulletins when they started joining the news services overnight). I hope that Jane continues to prosper in her career and hope she will be bringing us the news from studio or on location for many many years to come.
I have a question. I though that on News 24 a male presenter is always sitting on the left side of the desk (the shot with the gallery behind them). But right now I see a woman sitting there ??? Why is this???
They presenter pairings should swop for each shift. For example, if Simon is sitting in the 'control' left hand position, then on the following shift, Matthew will be on the right. However, this doesn't always work, as often less experienced presenters aren't given 'the reigns', or a presenter may work two shifts back to back, so they would naturally sit in the 'control' position on the left. Also one set of presenter pairings who are together all week, may just swop on a day to day basis - which may not be in sync with the 'bigger picture' and the other presenters either side of them.
Sorry to be stupid, why is the left the "control" position. I know if there's a single repsenter they usually sit on the left. (Also, in Breakfast the male is always on the left - just like in the weekday show. Don't know if the female presenter sits on the left for the first hour on a Saturday which is usually a single-header).

Well the presenter on the left will be the one to read the first headline, not sure why else it's control position. I don't think there is a control position on Breakfast as they don't swap, it was the same with the Six.
