Just fipping to BBC Two, can comebody tell me why BBC News 24 are showing reports from ABC News which RECORDED displayed next to the BBC News 24 logo?

I thought the RECORDED text only appeared if a fault was occuring or reports could not go out live.. but why are they showing reports from ABC?

P.s. sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

World News Tonight is on News 24 every night at 0130, around 2 hours behind its live showing.

It has always been the case that when World News Tonight is shown on News 24 there is a recorded caption. It's because it is a dirty feed of ABC and they often have LIVE captions on.

IIRC, don't they essentially take WNT and reassemble it with clean versions of the stings they have at TVC?

I'm sure I read somewhere they edit out sponsorship and the like

Yep - ABC WNT is re-edited, with clean stings rather than sponsored stings etc. dropped in so it doesn't breach BBC advertising and sponsorship rules.

The recorded DOG is put there so that people know it isn't a live show - it is recorded at 2330 from a live feed from the US, and then rebroadcast 2 hours later.

Yep - i know from experience as that's what I did when it first started on News 24 - there can be up to 6 ad breaks in WNT - so by the time they've been edited out and the sponsorship is taken out it can get down to near 20 minutes of actual programme.

So News 24 show a programme made by ABC with ABC presenters and correspondents?

Err - yes. Just as Sky show a programme made by CBS with CBS presenters and correspondents!

Effectively News 24 show the East Coast broadcast of ABC World News Tonight a couple of hours after original broadcasting (bit like the West Coast feed?) - but they have to edit it to remove commercial sponsorship content, and to hide the multiple ad-breaks (the BBC only put one break in it - roughly half way through - for a News 24 headline recap)

Imagine the same situation in America, for example (theoretically) Fox News channel broadcasting the BBC 6 o'clock news 2 hours later.

Basically ABC broadcast their main news show in America and News 24 edit it and show it.

Doesn't Sky News only broadcast CBS News 1 or 11/2 hours later delayed? I'm sure they get it off satellite whereas the BBC have fibre optics technology...

Yep they all are delayed except for NBC

They all broadcast [East Coast Editions] at 11:30pm British Time
NBC goes out live as CNBC europe can throw break filers ect
CBS goes out on sky at 12:30, edits out breaks ect.
ABC broadcasts on BBC N24 at 1:30 with only one break shown in the recorded broadcast

I recall a Sunday morning edition of 'ITV Morning News' containing a full version of the NBC Nightly News in it. It was during the winter when the roof collapsed in a hall in Eastern Europe. They were anle to fit the ntire NBC broadcast into a 15 mins slot.
