Strange... wonder why that contribution from the Mailbox was 14:9 rather than 16:9

Think that quite a few regions still use their original "Dalek" newsroom cameras for N24 lives - which are 4:3 only. They were installed for the launch of N24 - and at that time cheap cameras were 4:3 only - and those are VERY cheap cameras...

But BBC Birmingham only opened a few years ago, and everything there is new as far as im aware, apart from the odd bit which was transported from Pebble Mill, such as the MT Sofa.

Ah I see. Cheers. Well I should hope that they upgrade soon, as they use Birmingham often for interviews on N24.

I think the News 24 cameras are a bit of an oddity in internal political terms - and are unlikely to be replaced unless they die.

Let me guess BBC News don't think they should have to pay for them, and neither do the English Regions.

Out of interest are the cameras used by News 24, the same as the regions use when they talk to correspondents and reporters in their own newsroom. Look East quite often do a two-way with someone in the newsroom in Norwich.

Sort of - more likely to be to do with who owns them and how they were paid for when they were first bought, and how the maintenance is paid for.

Depends on the region - some use the News 24 cameras for newsroom lives, others use a proper studio camera wheeled out. Depends on the infrastructure and other issues.

In most cases yes, the cameras seen on News 24 are also used by regions crossing to their newsroom for a two way with a correspondent or reporter. It's a treatment that suits breaking stories quite well on regional news. In addition, the cameras are often used by all kinds of other programmes wanting to do two ways with guests when they cannot get to the centre producing the programme. It's not unknown for international bookings to crop up either. It's true though that a lot of cameras are getting rather long in the tooth, however while they are still working, the priority seems to be on equipping Local Radio sites with cameras. I've seen Radio Stoke's, Coventry and Warwickshire's and 3CR Luton's cameras used recently ...

The Belfast newsroom has one of those remote cameras, the warning sign saying not to touch it is as big as the camera itself. But I'm pretty sure that one is 16:9?

Technical issues are continuing on N24 today. The same "horizontal hold" problem appeared during playout of HARDtalk at around 0440, and during the 0657 London weather bulletin (the sustaining feed). There have also been sound issues at various points, including a continuous tone popping up from time to time.

Most unruly.

EDIT: At 08:05, as I write this addendum, the BBC News 24 DOG and clock are on screen on N24 in addition to the Breakfast clock and graphics. What the bananas is going on?

YAY! Very Happy

Maybe the strange happenings over the past day or two have been something to do with it?

Very low key though. Just an icon in the top bar, where they usually announce streaming of radio programmes and the 1/6/10. Nothing elsewhere on the site, no press releases.
