I'm very much hoping that before too long, being the Elections results day, that News 24 will do a live in the 'engine room', the newsroom behind the desk, as they used to do quite often from time to time...it was a nice informative feature, obviously slightly awkward, having to de-rig and use the camera from the left hand pod, but is a different insight into the news operation.
Perhaps they should get rid of the LH pod and permanently move that camera to the 'engine room' - could easily do sport etc from there with the newsroom in the background, or even a view through the glass to the set.
No, the camera in the summary pod is stil needed, as the pod is still used a lot during the day - it's just that people don't tend to notice. The access to the set is from that side, and for a start there isn't the space to move anything - then there is the practicality (it is a working newsroom), the physical space, and the sound/audio issue (the set is soundproofed as best as possible from the general atmos of the newsroom).
I was just saying that it would be good to make it a more regular feature, and bring it back - maybe if not now, definately throughout the day for the general election. Last time, they also opted out of Breakfast, and gave Tim his own slot from 07.30 - 09.00 every morning to start the day with election news, which worked well for those of us wanting to watch news and not fluff!
A bit of a mystery, Jane Hill put in just half an hour on air today, from 11 - 11.30. And Louise has done the '1' and stayed on air since then, seemingly carrying on with her own shift as well.
That's a CSO. The summary pod, as you look at the set, is on the left hand side. It has the silver rail at half height, transparent red base, frosted glass, and vertical red markings on either side. It looks out over a lot of the reporter's desks, and gives a sideways view of the newsroom that you can see from the main presenter 2 shot.
Now im sure we have discussed this before but today highlights it again for me. Why can't News 24 be streamed on the internet all the time. It's quite handy having it tucked away on the corner of monitor 2 today. Can just listen to the audio and watch when something interesting happens. I presume there are practical issues and broadcast issues involved which currently prevents it's streaming?!? I can now watch News 24 on my mobile (49p for 24 hours access) so why not the internet all the time?
Has to be said im impressed with News 24 this afternoon. There has been quite a bit of Breaking News and a lot of Live's from all over the country due to the Elections. All just seems to be flowing very well. I normally only see News 24 at weekends so maybe it's like this all the time in the week but it seems very busy to me this afternoon. Credit where credit's due & all that!
I agree, if they can pop live streaming up during Breaking news, why not all the time?
They don't have rights to sports clips etc, they would have to block out a good,5/10 mins per hour.
On a seperate matter I object to Thursday being described as a quiet news day. The UVF's statement not getting even into the headlines for the 1 was a bizarre London-centric decision.
