did anybody catch N24's appalling coverage of the plane crash this morning?

You obviously didn't!

Can someone explain to me how News 24 this evening couldn't name the person charged over the murder of the 12 year old girl, however on a previous day they have named a minor who was arrested in connection with the crime. I always thought minors by default, could not be named in press reports unless a judge decided otherwise.

Does BBC news 24 use the POD thing to the left anymore?

It's prodominately used for sport and relief situations these days. But yes, it is still used.

The best chances of seeing it be used are when programmes like Dateline are on and they need time to set up the main presenting area. Think it gets used less as its quite distracting to the presenter to present from the Pod.

Someone also appears to have taken a scouring pad to the back fo the pod.

Does anyone have any pics from the presenter eye view - or along the back wall?

Absolutely - though what makes the mother of someone who's just been killed phone a news channel I'll never know. Getting more like America every day.

i am referring to the bit where a woefully under prepared Sally Nugent continyed to refer to the deceased as former Everton chairman Phillip Carter despite being told that he was a Chelsea fan - talking about how this was a tragedy for Merseyside. Doesn't help when N24 put themselves on a pedestal when it comes to 24hr news.

The funeral service of Alan Ball is now on N24, so I suspect that Sophie will have free range for the One in the N24 studio.

Very well handled. The '1' is coming from N8 again with Sophie, but News 24 are rolling on location, with good coverage of Alan Ball's funeral.
Interesting to note the backup astons and lack of 'Live' bug, even though the ticker and DOG are still up.

The '1' even threw to Ben Brown, who did a seemless couple of minutes as part of the '1' - News 24 viewers wouldnt have known any different. BBC are handling this well.

In a fortuitous manner, Ball's funeral couldn't have been on a better day News wise. With the UK wide elestions in progress domestic political coverage is more or less dead until 10pm - RPA etc. It enabled N24 to 'fill' 75 mins (105 mins - if you count the One) relatively easily.

(Before anyone says it, this in no way shows any disrespect to the memory of Alan Ball)
