I didn't see it but you're saying he plugged his bank? Ooh er
Not exactly, having seen the device which Ms. Caesar was having difficulties with, he implored HSBC not to introduce a similar one. By doing so he clearly identified his bankers.
Went off on one about Barclays new PinSentry system when doing a 1:1 with Julia Caesar, and implored his bank HSBC not to introduce a similar device for it's customers.
He's gone up significantly in my estimation now.
Yes - Huw's a great character. I nearly met him however a meeting came up.
He is a very nice chap. I did meet him and he was very talkative and friendly.
Just then on News 24 they did one of those camera shots when the RH presenter is talking to someone on the RH screen and they switch to the LH presenter talking to a new interviewee on the LH screen. They do it using the camera on the rail above the set that's usually used when coming out of the titles.
Thing is, when used like this there's no motor noise, but when it's used coming out of the titles it makes a hell of a din. Why's this?
The noise is the motor that drives the camera along the track. When it's used locked off for transitions between guests on set, it's locked off and isn't mobile, hence the lack of motor noise. If there is an experienced sound operator on the desk, you don't have to hear it at all - for example during Dateline London, when the aerial tracking camera is used extensively, and from time to time during paper reviews - if the mic levels are ridden manually at the desk, then its just a case of keeping everything as low as possible except the speaker. You hear the noise at the TOTH after the titles when the levels are pushed up too early on the presenter's mic.

Right ta. Perhaps someone could have a word then, as - if it's possible to avoid the noise - it should be avoided as it's really quite annoying and makes the entire set-up seem amateurish. Compare this to the transition between guests when noise isn't a problem, and it's good to watch and looks professional.
One another note, Carrie Gracie on PM tonight - read about it on the (must read) PM blog.
The problem is that the noise is too loud, and there are plenty of camera systems out there that are much quieter than that. The problem is that it wouldn't be feasible to replace the remote camera with another system, instead just wait for the next studio/ set revamp, and do the install then. I agree that it sounds messy, but the shots from up there look great. It's good when it's used to track from one side of the desk to the other, when two presenters are on, and the transition is from one interview to another - it looks great. Nice wide angled lens on it too.
Gunman in NASA building with live helicopter footage available... N24 goes to Business, Sport & Film 24. Do they really think the news stops after 6pm on Friday?
