I think Sky News has a real advantage now with its breaking news ticker. They are able to continue their normal coverage and keep information about the breaking news on screen.

Perhaps News 24 could do something like this...

Just seen a new "EXCLUSIVE" bug on a red background at the top left of the screen, for the BBC's coverage onboard HMS Cornwall during the current situation in Shatt al Arab. Not sure if this is a very recent addition, but it's certainly the first time i've seen it in use.

Notice how it's in the same place as the live bug originally was and hasn't been moved down.

How long have they been showing Question Time on News 24?

Is this just a Iraq special or something that happens every week?

Like the idea of replaying it again, it's on a bit late for me to watch on a Thursday evening

This one is only for the Iraq Special, but from September when the new QT contract with Merton begins, it will air in a regular half hour slot on News 24.

It's rather interesting to see News 24 using the headline "Navy Kidnappings" - I would've thought they'd use something more like "Navy Crisis", given that "Kidnappings" is a term that reflects only one half of the argument.

As far as the Iranians are concerned, our boats were in their territory, and it seems largely to be the US/UK assertion (saying the boats weren't in their territory) against the Iranian assertion at the moment - so I'd have expected the Beeb to use less loaded language, given that the arrests would be wholly lawful if the group were in Iranian territory.

I note that other news organisations are using more guarded terminology like 'seized' and 'detained'.

Tim Willcox really is the unsung hero of BBC News24, a consumate professional who really seems to know his brief whatever he's covering.

Has he ever presented a BBC ONE bulletin?

Yes quite a few of the weekend and holiday bulletins. In fact he was on at lunchtime today (and will probably be on for the evening bulletin)

He's been on BBC 1 a lot at the weekends recently, during The Politics Show on the last few Sundays. He has done Breakfast a handful of times a couple of years ago, and popped up on World from time to time, but he's always on News 24. Quite how anyone can finish on air at 00.35 and be back on at 09.00 the next morning is beyond me. His depth of knowledge on any subject is good. They must pay him well, he can afford plenty of hairspray!

Given his long stints at News 24, maybe he doesn't have time to get to the shops. Wink
