I think Sky News has a real advantage now with its breaking news ticker. They are able to continue their normal coverage and keep information about the breaking news on screen.
Agreed though. Whilst I really dislike the style of Sky's new graphics, the Breaking News ticker is actually very useful.
I always thought the practice of having a big Breaking News strap on screen refering to a story which was differnt to the report being shown at the time was rather confusing.
I think the text in your mock is rather on the small size, but I like the general idea.
Not sure just red text would be eye catching enough, but it'd be better than nothing, certainly. At the moment they just put BREAKING at the beginning of the ticker and then all the other ticker stuff - it should exclusively be the breaking news and should be used in the same way as Sky use theirs.
By the way, the BBC have a bit of a scoop with one of their correspondants actually on board HMS Cornwall - the 'mother' ship of the two patrol boats which have been captured by the Iranians.
The 2-2.25am joint N24/World slot was filled entirley with the cricket coach death story, as was the N24 UK summary.
The huge name astons on The Record at 2.30 were almost totally obscured by the breaking news straps.
No big deal though, guessing I was one of very few insomniacs to be tuned in
the XX.30 overnight summary is now also simulcast with BBC World albeit BBC World pull out after the main stories are read so N24 can do a quick UK summary (sometimes evident by a slight pause).
