TX is on the dot, so someone getting a direct analogue feed from TV Centre would get it bang on the hour - or if they were watching analogue network BBC1 overnight.
This isn't quite the case - the pictures from News 24 have to go up to the Broadcast Centre and back before going to the transmitters; but we are talking milliseconds of delay rather than seconds here.

It didn't but it was one of BBC Marketing's excuses.

I do like this new (if it is) idea of putting the local time on N24 outputs during TWT. I wish they would do it for all news broadcasts so that the average "numpty" knows why it's dark in Baghdad at 16:00, or light in Singapore at 04:00 GMT:

Speaking of BBC World, I notice we've (in the UK) have been having the World dog/ticker for periods today.

Caught the end of the "Five O'Clock News" this afternoon and apart from Dan giving us the weather on that (relatively) tiny back screen on the set, we had Emily sign off saying the Six was next and fading into a 20sec countdown, removing the graphics soon after.

Is there any technical reason why Emily couldn't have filled for a further 20secs and hand over to George and Natasha cleanly?

They almost always have the countdown into the Six. Why shouldn't they? I think it's neater than one presenter sitting in a studio suddenly jumping to two standing in another one.

I don't think there is any sort of technical reason it's just purely presentation, and it works well. It marks then end of one hour and the startof another.

On an aside... Who or what is this Doiley thing?

and the local time thing - i've seen them do it on News 24 for more obscure locations such as the capital of Sudan which the name of escapes me, and Ber....Berahle? is it in Ethiopia? Very good idea and only adds to the idea of the BBCs global presence (that last bit doesn't quite make sense but I'll leave you to interpret).

****.....Grand Designs has started. Hasta luego amigos

None whatsoever; they're just cutting up N6 on the mixer. I suppose it just looks a little neater, and means the News 24 presenter doesn't have to waffle to a precise time.

It was the constant fluffing that made me laugh the most.
