Now on the BBC, the latest news from your area on BBC1, Newsnight has more on today's top stories on BBC2 and the Ten o'clock News Hour continues on News 24 with a full round up of today's sport, but from the Ten o'clock news team, goodnight.

... before a proper closing sequence.

The short regional bulletins should then begin Newsbeat style - one thunder clap and the top story, a short sting and straight into the bulletin.

News 24 should have a quick promo for something like Hardtalk or World Business Report on later before rejoining the 10pm news hour.

Excellent suggestion,

My script ....

That's all from the Ten O'Clock News on BBC One, Newsnight with more on ..... is about to start on BBC Two, News 24 continues shortly with a full sports round-up and a first look at the morning papers, from me it's Goodnight, - pause N24 leaves - the weather follows your regional news here on BBC One.

This has the advantage that viewers can switch cleanly at 2230 to Newsnight and not miss it's start.

I just think it's ludicrous that Sportsround seems to take priority over a BBC News bulletin. Why can't it go back to being on location like it used to be?

Even on location it still has to route through a studio to get to air! Not quite sure where people get this idea that location based programming magically gets on air. Every live program has to be routed through some studio gallery to be able to be produced (graphics etc) and picked up by transmission. Sportsround is just as important a program as a BBC News Bulletin and given that Sportsround is 15 mins long and the news update is only a max of 5 mins long, Sportsround will get priority (especially as the news update can be so easily taken care of by the guys & gals upstairs at N24).

Unless you produce it all on location and feed direct to pres...

That ain't gonna happen for sportsround is it. They would just pre record rather than do it all on location.

They were cheerful , the announcer should say
'Now BBC News, here on News 24, We try to make it intresting and not depressing'

I still say they should bring back the flags.

Although it could still route through N6, having it as an OB would eliminate having to redress the set

But you would still need time to load the relevant graphics and cue them up in the gallery.

I just wanna clear this up once and for all.

OBs don't always have to go through a live gallery to then be passed onto network presentation.

Big sport events on the BBC often go straight from the Scanner truck to presentation. They don't always go via TC5.

Also, big royal and poitical coverage doesn't always go via Millbank, and often goes from the Scanner to presentation.

News output though would always go via a gallery, cause the gear at the OB would just be a couple of cameras and a links vehicle.

With large complicated programmes, it's also quite common to send feeds out to the main OB from other OBs/studios to allow them to do the switching from their mixer, rather than switching in pres, or through a proper studio gallery.

With all the laughter over Sky News' new look, it's perhaps not surprising that nobody's commented on the pres features for the Oscars on News 24 today.

They've been using the special Oscar Breakfast supers throughout the day on N24, which wouldn't look completely out of place if they aligned properly with the top of the ticker, and stretched far enough left to match the position of the red DOG background.

That said, it does seem a bit of a missed opportunity not to have used the new Vizrt systems to generate something more adventurous - perhaps something as simple as a spinning Oscar in the supers feature box above the DOG. At least they made an effort though.

They've also been using the right-side pod for periodic updates with Mark Kermode, and they've wheeled out the red cinema seats for the occasion. They're also using their ever so slightly cheesy CG effects when mixing into VT, with an unusual reverse angle view of the right-side pod (seemingly placing the camera position to the above-right of the projector screen - above-right of our standard view of the right-side area that is), looking over Mark Kermode + guest, as they look towards a digitally inserted cinema screen, complete with curtain opening effects. I think this set up was used for the Oscar nominations special programme that they ran a few weeks back.

Additionally, they've been running a special title sequence - which sadly doesn't look anywhere near as good as last year's - backed by the horrible HORRIBLE music also used on Entertainment 24. Yuk.

The final element has of course been Kate Silverton on Breakfast. I hope people give her a break today, because I thought she not only looked the part - very elegant and full of smiles - but also carried the whole thing off very well. She looked slightly nervous at times, but she clearly enjoyed it, and this manifested itself in good quality presenting, including some good humoured self-mocking, as she pointed out that she'd managed to drop an iced bun and spill coffee all over her dress.

All in all, not a bad effort - although not exactly perfect - and it's good to see the BBC having a bit of fun with their Oscars coverage and not taking their reporting of it quite as seriously as some other outlets.

I think that's a pretty good summary. I noticed the Breakfast location graphic being used over the weekend. It does seem a bit odd, but in the light of Sky's abortion of a graphic revamp, it's hardly worth complaining about.

In fact, is it just me, or do News 24's graphics just look sooo good now when you switch over from Sky?

As for Kate, I've always liked her. She comes across as very natural and relaxed on air. So what if she wears dodgy outfits now and again? I quite like that rebellious streak.

Kate was excellent from what I saw - relaxed, confident and obviously enjoying the entire thing, which led to me enjoying it too!

She was genuine, unlike Natasha who's so false it's untrue!

I liked Kates performance - her red dres this moring suited her very well!

Oh and I agree about N24's graphics looking spectactular after watching sky news! Very Happy
