What I would do is drop the weather just before 12 and news 24 would go straight up to the bulletin with the presenter saying " now on BBC news 24, BBC one viewers will join us for a recap on todays headlines..." Do the usual bulletin, then finish with the presenter saying "Thats the news now the weather with..." then BBC one and news 24 both go to the same weather.

Why not keep the weather as it is on News 24, just before TOTH, you have the news, then the presenter ends the summary with "those are the headlines...now the weather". BBC One gets a full summary, whilst News 24 gets a flyover summary graphic (a la Daytime News) then continuiing with the news.

The midday Saturday bulletin could quite simply be ended with the sting and a wide shot of the studio, rather than the current awkward pause and interruption of flow while the opt out takes place. Then it could be picked up by the presenter with "And now here on News 24, we'll continue with a more in depth look at the day's news, starting with our main story, xxxx" I think a lot of the linking is down to the style of the individual presenter concerned. Chris Eakin, for example, is excellent at ad-lib linking, padding out etc and he would make the transition from simulcast to rolling coverage a lot less painful.
Unless of course, presenters have been instructed to act as if no simulcast has ever taken place, which is almost certainly the case at the moment. Why not just get Maxine to do the News 24 Saturday shift every week, Peter Sissons can do the bulletin every week and the bulletin is ended with sting and wide shot of the studio, then picked up by Maxine with a "Thanks Peter" etc from the left hand pod. Then Peter's long 13.00 - 19.00 shift is cut short to compensate, and they get Tim to do say a 17.00 - 19.00. It means paying out for an extra presenter for a couple of hours, but if we get the main man on our screens for yet another shift, then who cares. He virtually lives at TVC anyway.

The end of the Ten gets worse by the week, the recap of the headlines generally consists of Huw reading 2 sentences and then saying goodbye. They even start the closing bed right at the start, totally pointless.
The dodgy ending to the One is just as bad

It be easy enough to do with the 10pm bulletin as well - just switch the weather and regional news around and end the 10pm news properly.
It's just as bad with the handovers to regional news - pretty poor IMO.

It's hardly worth having a headlines update at the end of the Ten O Clock News. It lasts about 25 seconds and really is only a plug for Newsnight which has started about 2 minutes before on BBC Two.
What they need is a longer summary, ala 6.55 upadate, or just give a more detailed summary on the top story.

With the 10pm what they should do is have the weather in the studio and end the bulletin properly wth a cross-promotional plug along the lines of...
... before a proper closing sequence.
The short regional bulletins should then begin Newsbeat style - one thunder clap and the top story, a short sting and straight into the bulletin.
News 24 should have a quick promo for something like Hardtalk or World Business Report on later before rejoining the 10pm news hour.

Now on the BBC, the latest news from your area on BBC1, Newsnight has more on today's top stories on BBC2 and the Ten o'clock News Hour continues on News 24 with a full round up of today's sport, but from the Ten o'clock news team, goodnight.

Even on location it still has to route through a studio to get to air! Not quite sure where people get this idea that location based programming magically gets on air. Every live program has to be routed through some studio gallery to be able to be produced (graphics etc) and picked up by transmission. Sportsround is just as important a program as a BBC News Bulletin and given that Sportsround is 15 mins long and the news update is only a max of 5 mins long, Sportsround will get priority (especially as the news update can be so easily taken care of by the guys & gals upstairs at N24).

I just think it's ludicrous that Sportsround seems to take priority over a BBC News bulletin. Why can't it go back to being on location like it used to be?
