On MediaGuardian they have an e-mail sent out by the controller of News24 after the RTS awards. The full e-mail can be read HERE

I spent a fair amount of time talking to the Sky News team at the dinner last night and they are very open about the damage that the Freeview decision could have on them. Many of them are very upset also about the way they have been treated by BSkyB: James Murdoch is visiting them today to try to explain the decision. And quite a few senior and prominent people there are still interested in coming here!
Interesting or what!

wow, that full e-mail is pretty mean spirited. I didn't realise they were such bad losers at the BBC.
I think last year was the first time they won it, so that may hurt more...

They really do need to look at how it looks to News 24 viewers when there are simulcasts with BBC One.
At the end of the 1,6 and 10 they tell you what's coming up 'over' on News 24 (we're already there) and then have the cheek to say, 'here' on BBC One... Can't they think of a better way of ending the bulletin? Can't News 24 cut away before they talk to the BBC One viewers?
Just now during the 12 noon BBC One simulcast, Tim said 'Goodbye' looked down briefly and then just carried on. Why can't they record the 'That's all for now, the next news is at blah blah. Goodbye' during the weather, and play this out just on BBC One while News 24 carries on as normal?

I think with the simulcasts, a better end to them would be for News 24, to do exactly what BBC One does at the end, have the presenter sign off - followed by the weather forecast. And on News 24, after the weather, they would say what is coming up in the next 50 mins, and BBC One, doing their next programme. (For the Midday programmes).
Thanks from Andrew.

They should return to ending the bulletin properly with closing titles and then returning to BBC News 24.
It be easy enough to do with the 10pm bulletin as well - just switch the weather and regional news around and end the 10pm news properly.
It's just as bad with the handovers to regional news - pretty poor IMO.
ITV News had it right when they relaunched back in 2004 with the stings going into and out of regional news. They don't use them as well now, but it still works better than the BBC.
So I guess another option would be rather than closing the bulletin properly would be to have a proper sting when they switch to N24/Regional News.
The 12noon Saturday simulcast is the worst though as others have said - it shows little respect for the News 24 viewer and if possible they should end it, hanging on to one of the Breakfast presenters for a couple of hours to do the midday summary on BBC1.
Otherwise they need to find a reason why N24 would have such a short bulletin at midday - perhaps having a special report or something following it.

I can't imagine them holding on to a Breakfast presenter just for a five minute bulletin. It surely would make a very long shift for the presenter and paying them for two hours when they're can't be much that needs doing isn't very cost effective. I do however see the point that they need to improve the sign off of the midday Saturday bulletin. I don't see that the pre-record would work however as is it not correct that they can only output one thing.
The only way I can think of resolving it is by using the CSO screen in the Sunday AM/Politics Show studio and the presenter of News 24 starting at 1pm. The only problem would be that's then not very cost effective because of staffing. Whether they could cheat and have the studio all prepared before Sportsround and then they would just need gallery staff?
