Stupid Daily Mail article here about Kate Silverton's 'dilemma' about whether to go to the Oscars or strike: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/columnists/columnists.html?in_article_id=436281&in_page_id=1772&in_author_id=230

First thing to say about it - i can't belive some people still call News 24 'BBC 24' Rolling Eyes . I've seen it called this several times in the past, but not for a while now. Absoloulty ridiculous.

The article also says that this is Kate's first 'prime time broadcast' and her 'big moment'. What a load of cobblers - the Oscars is in the middle of the night so she'll presumably be reporting there for Breakfast, its hardly her big moment, and shes been on 'prime time' plenty of times before.

Apparently a 'close friend said: '‘If she doesn’t go to the Oscars and the strike doesn’t take place, she will have missed a golden opportunity to display her talents in prime-time.".

What rubbish - very lazy journalism.

Was it a reply of the special he did on BBC News 24 @ 6pm?

Yes it was. A fairly abrupt ending into a sting, it obviously wasn't thought worthwhile trying to record a different sign-off.

I don't know whether or not the live bug was burnt into the recording, but it appeared whenever the guest in Glasgow was on.

On reading that stupid article, I am still unclear as to who could be striking, will News output be hit so severely that they will have to cart in stalwarts like Osman... erm Akthar Khan has left and so has Stephen Cole since the last strike... well they will have to get by I guess.

Can anyone shed any light?

Perhaps BBC will bring-in Ginny Buckley to cover the strike, given that the strike is only for journalists.

I think she'll break the strike, she seems quite eager to raise her profile and I don't think she'll pass up on the Oscars.

Just noticed something odd during the Sport then... BBC NEWS 24 DOG was replaced by a BBC WORLD DOG and then reverted back to the N24 one once they passed back to Ellie and Matthew.

The clock disappeared, and to be honest, it was a shame when it returned.

A production mistake or a simulcast?

why could they not just extend the red bit over the new clock, shift the N24 logo to the edge nearer the ticker and put the clock where the N24 was? then it would continue and look good rather than the disconected black clock that looks shiit?

I've noticed that one of the afternoon / evening sports bulletins (can't remember which - may be the 16.50 one, or one of the mid-evening ones, can't remember) is always done cleanly, with clear start and end points, which looks like it could be a simulcast or recorded for use elsewhere. (In the same way that the sports bulletin in the 23.00 hour is started and ended cleanly, so it can be recorded and played out through the night on the simulcast.)

Say's a lot for their research doesn't it if they can't even get a simple channel name correct. Got to admit though that's going to be a tough decision for Kate. Surely her collegues would let her off just this once? It's not like one presenter still presenting is going to change anything as their still going to be without most of the news staff in London, and she can hardly anchor a news bulletin from outside the Kodak complex Hollywood Boulevard or do anything other than report on the Oscar's.

But if she doesn't strike, it'll be like the Oscars are more important than the strike. Not exactly a vote of confidence.

Unfortunatly thats not how Joe Public see it.

In defence, it was a column, not an article, so normal subjective journalistic rules of accuracy and fairness don't seem to apply.
