Its the awful backdrop that they used on the last occasion. I don't know why they can't just use the nationals background for News 24, and the actual Breakfast background for breakfast - they use the graphics. Just makes more sense. The only problem I could see is that at some point in the day they need to switch between day, dusk and night backgrounds.

That fake backdrop does look crap(You can see some gaps in the backing on certain shots, certainly on the sports bit), plus when they use a wide shot, it's obvious they're not in the normal studio, because the desk is different!

Does anyone actually contact them to ask why it's different & they say on air why it's different, or are they told not to mention on air why?

If they're told not to refer to it on air by the powers that be, then that's stupid IMO.

People do have eyes & are (in the most case) not stupid!

*The* N24 background? That was arguably the worst background picture I have ever seen. It wasn't from N6, was it? It just looked like CSO.

It's not that a bad background picture Asa. It was the same from N6 if you watched Breakfast. It's a shame they have to blur it so much though, because the "real" N8 newsroom never looks so out of focus.

Your average "Joe Public" wouldn't notice though Shocked

Of course, these days they have no reason for CSO during planned maintenance because of the inherent compatablility between N6 and TC7. Even in an emergency surely TC7 could be used for the national news or even News24 if there were the ability to link with the N6/8/9 galleries.

That's still a matter of opinion.

I wasn't expecting a change when I switched on today(haven't been on here for a couple of days) & I noticed more or less straightaway.

Yes Westy, us anoraks do, but the average person won't:

If it looks like, smells like, and portrays itself as News24 then they would just think "Oh, another slight change"

Or even more likely, your average viewer will be focused on the news content.

Then you might as well present from a tin shed, I am sure viewers wouldn't notice Wink

Is it just me, or has the live...er... graphic (I don't know what all the different bits are called Razz) changed again today?

The "LIVE" text looks a bit different and the black bit is semi-transparent - I don't remember it being like that before.

It's a "bug" says the head of pres (he was on Newswatch and referred to it as a bug)

It does look slightly different. I just put it down to what Media Boy described as "simpler versions of stuff" with the change of studio.

Personally I think it looks slightly better - the word 'LIVE' seems to fit the box better.

Where was BBC News 24 coming from just before the start of this evenings news bulletin. I caught a very quick glimpse but didn't recognise it. The only place I could think of was the second BBC World desk.

By the way - can I say:
News 24 will be coming from N6 this weekend from 0600.
Its because of Phase II of the Electrical Testing.
NO SET CHANGES ARE HAPPENING - N8 will be SHUT!
Just clarifying matters.. thank you.

Can they use the N8 gallery when in N6? i.e. can they keep using their new graphics or do they have to use a simpler version from N6?

No routing make it hell and anyway kit in N8 is turned OFF for the testing.
VIZ is available in N6 but not under aurtomation control so expect simpler versions of stuff and all VIZ output done manually by a text producer.

Well they seem to be working now - full normal News 24 graphics now from N6.

which begs the question why cant they use VIZ in the normal news programmes from N6!

Anyone know the answer to this? Media Boy?

If N6 has been running News 24 graphics all day, why can't it run similar graphics on the 1/6/10!?

If you have been watching closely - all we are doing is controlling the N8 VIZ from the N6 gallery. N6 output replaces N8 output on the transmission network and then the VIZ is added further down the chain. Because N6 has no automation - its all being controlled by a text producer sitting at the back of the gallery, but essentially its the same 'box' that is used on N24 - its just being controlled from a different gallery in manual conditions.

VIZ is a two stage project. Phase 1 was to get it to replace TOG in BBC NEWS 24 and BBC World.
Phase 2 will be to get it to replace Astons provided by Big Ted in N6, but we need to get a second 'box', so this will be installed later this year.

Hope that makes sense.
