Re - the clock position - Having watched for an hour or so, it looks more balanced when the astons are in use above the text bar, especially when the subject box is in use, e.g. Breaking News, but the rest of the time, it definately looks pretty bad. The LIVE bug is still irritating, needs tweaking to the right slightly to align with 'BBC' on the lower bar.

Another point of note for tweaks - the new maps are good, they fit in well and are very dynamic, coming in from space down to an actual view of the area or a map. Demonstrated to good effect yesterday and the day before with the Bird Flu story.

However, the full screen BBC Sport graphics need updating, the ones they use full screen for results news and team news during sports updates - they're still tower safe, and need budging up slightly to the left, to align with the end of the 'BBC News 24' logo'.

Just seen it, and I actually think it's OK! I was expecting the whole chunk of ticker bar to be black, so it'd have been from left to right red, black, white. It's OK in the small black box.

Looks something like this (can't cap, so this is a mock)

Not seen it yet, but it sounds awful. If they have to pacify the brainless t****rs who are complaining about the clock being out of view on their dinosaur TV, why not something like this...

Indeed! It seems they've given in to the 4:3 crowd.

Who stole Sky's graphics?! Where have they gone?

Hmm... *punch in 503*. There they are!

Not surprised at all - has any revamp of anything ever not been toned downed to appease the moaning minority?

Don't think the clock looks as bad as it could do - but it animates on awfully!

(Random idea, but perhaps they'd have been better off having the DOG on the right hand side - so the "BBC" is 4:3 safe, "News" is 14:9 safe and the 24 tagged on the end for widescreen viewers. Or perhaps not!)

P.S. News Multiscreen still using the old titles

I imagine they'll update the multiscreen titles etc. when the expanded service on Freeview is released.

Nice to see Julian Worricker on as usual on a Friday afternoon. Why he only has 1 scheduled appearance per week is slightly puzzling - evidently he has radio commitments, but the BBC should have him following closely behind Tim in covering the various shifts that require relief presenters during the week, he has a very competant and authoratitive style, handles breaking news like a natural, very efficiently, and obviously gets on with most of the people he's paired with, in recent months usuaully Louise or, as is the case today, Maxine. A true professional, very hard to fault. Reliable - just unfortunate we only see him for a few hours every Friday.

I saw the new clock position for the first time this lunchtime. It made me Evil or Very Mad

I liked the clock being a position that would leave idiots watching in, say, 14:9 stretched to 16:9, with only half a clock.

Anything that encourages dinosaurs to actually start using their intelligence, and realise that it's a fat lot of use owning a "true widescreen" shaped TV screen, if you're still watching programmes in a not-16:9 aspect ratio, can only be a good thing IMHO.

This clock movement is a victory for dinosaurs. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Having now seen it, it doesn't look *that* bad, although it definitely looked better where it was before.

It does seem very strange how people have got upset that they can't see the clock. What do they do when they watch channels without a clock?

Remember- News 24 is still broadcast analogue overnight and weekend mornings, in 14:9. And the Freeview AFD says "14:9 safe" (which some Freeview boxes apparently default to when that AFD's set) which left the clock half-on, half-off screen, which is worse than both wholly-on and wholly-off..

Now I've seen it for a while, and seen it animate on, I think it's an improvement!

It's more balanced now the left hand edge of the DOG and the right hand edge of the text are equidistant from the edge of the screen.

The way it animates on is fine. I like the translucent background that's there - howevever briefly - until the ticker slides in. Without it the clock would be floating. It seems like a carefully well thought out detail to me.

I think that if they'd relaunched with what they had today, and then changed to the far left clock on red, the same people would have been complaining!
