Your right! Charle Stait is a good newsreader, he is one of those rare bbc newsreaders that can react and adlib if a major breaking news story hits, the other guys who can do that IMO are Matthew Amrilliwalah (excuse spelling of surname) and John Sopel.

In the topic of graphics, the best news graphics are those that you are able to read sub-consciously and I think the new BBC ones are spot on.

The faster pace at the top of the hour is superb.

Hmmm, he's OK, but does have his little overused sayings though. "Yes, exactly on that point...", "...and let's get the headlines because that is our top story..." and others!

On another point...

A lot of us were expecting, I'm sure, some grey used in the new N24 graphics, continuing its use on the 1/6/10. I think they should have used grey for the main subject straps, reserving red tops for breaking news...

and for breaking...

I don't know whether it's just the way you have done it, but that looks totally boring as grey. Perhaps if there was a tower still to break up the grey bits, but I think this is way to black-and-white!

I've noticed a rather odd behaviour on the main strap which seems to crop up quite a lot, when text wipes on it in two passes. Some characters seem to get stuck on the first pass, and then they wipe on again to fill in the gaps. Despite my awful attempt to explain that, does anyone know the story behind this?

I know exactly what you mean Barney.

Using the above cap as an example:

You would expect to see one wipe saying

"Funding will target 40 problem areas"

yet quite often the first wipe might see something like

" nd i l g t 4 p l m e s"

and then the rest fills in on the second wipe,

Presumably just a bug in the gfx software?

I agree - Charlie Stayt was very steady at the weekend. I'm pleased he's finally signed with the BBC. It was very odd seeing him popping up on N24 one week and Sky the next and not really performing in the house style of either.

Matthew umms and arrs quite a bit when handling breaking news. I think Juian Worricker is good at it, but he doesn't get on air as much as the others, unfortunately.

Yes i've noticed that

It looks very odd and yes it probably is just a blip in the software

they should get it fixed though - I bet it annoys some people not as kind and understanding as ourselves Very Happy

They are using the old Tonight Bed on N24 Tonight, tonight! The new sting though.

Is there a reason why Joanna Gosling has been presenting News 24 on her own this evening since at least 930 - only turned over then. Has she been on her own all evening?
