The problem seems to be that the ticker isn't working now that the clock has moved position and the text of the aston has been decreased in size. So, to get the ticker working, they have reverted back to the original clock position and text size - ticker works perfectly.

Indeed, they seem to have been playing around for some time with the clock/text size.

Just a not on the Sissons debate. I do actually feel he has a role on News 24. Albeit, he is far more suited to something like The Five O'Clock News, he does bring a certain air of gravitas with him. And, being a weekend perhaps that is more suitable.

Back to the ticker, it really is distracting to see it taken on and off repeatedly.

Sissons is good.

.... But really shouldn't do stories featuring the names of "Popular Beat Combos", he clearly isn't au-fait with such as was vocalised in his description of "Two" groups ....

"Jesus and Mary" and
"Chain"

during an item on the current craze of resurrecting former Popular Beat Combos from the grave.

Michael Buerk had a similar "issue" when one of R.E.M.'s band members was in court in the UK - the band was pronounced "Rem" (as in REMote) rather than as three letters.

When Steps broke up Anna Ford called them "The Steps"

Getting some newsreaders of "a certain age" to do entertainment stories really doesn't work - they have credibility in a lot of areas, but pop culture isn't one of them.

on the other hand, I recall BIG MOIRA ending a BBC1 news bulletin once with the words "c'ya!"

Sounded very teen pop sms-ish.........LOL

Anyone else 'bored' with the new graphics yet? I am. Don't get me wrong, I like them, just that there's not an awful lot to them is there.

Two things that they don't do which I think they should...

Arrow Breaking News should be more noticeable - once you've had the strap flashing a couple of times it changes to a strap that isn't much different from the sport/business/news in brief/interactive - oh, in fact all of the other straps that have the insert above the DOG. Apart from the words 'breaking news' there's no difference. Hardly in your face is it? Perhaps the whole strap should be a brighter red, and the insert above the DOG extend above the strap with a bigger animating globe?

Arrow The ticker should have a way of showing breaking news once the strap has gone, like the last set of graphics, with perhaps the background changing colour, or just the background behind the header 'breaking news' (instead of the usual 'headlines' etc) could change to red?

Personally, I would take plain and clear, over OTT and Flashy graphics.

I don't think the problem lies in the graphics - the music isn't quite right. I feel it should have a sting launching in to a breaking-news bed (like the headlines bed and news-in-brief vamps). At the moment it sounds like the start of a bed, but then just fades out... dull. Dull. Dull.

I don't think the BBC will ever win when it comes to pleasing the masses. I can remember on re-launch day back in December 2003 when people were saying the graphics were too big and "in your face" and that the breaking news splash was over-the-top. Now, the BBC have scaled down the graphics and people are complaining that they are "boring" and not "in your face" enough.

Personally, I think the new graphics on N24/World and Nationals are very nice and are a vast improvement on the last set. They still provide all the same information but take up less space and are less distracting from the presenters and reports. I think the current breaking news arrangement is more than adequate. I don't need multi-coloured, flashing, huge text to alert me to the fact that some news has just come in. A couple of full screen astons saying "BREAKING NEWS" is enough to grab attention and then it is a good idea of the BBC's to move it to the little slug above the DOG. With the previous arrangement, it alternated between "BREAKING NEWS" and the story - now, you get everything on screen at once with the added bonus of it looking classy.

no - the titles and music are exceptional but the breaking news thing should have a little tiny video overlay - like the last titles - of a globe and some ear-catching (??!) music to go with it
