I don't post here often but I read every day and you consistently come across as being very unprofessional, itsrobert. If people are chatting on a forum that you work on you should be pleased about that and encourage it, not moan at them that you're not interested in what they have to say.

I take it you'd agree with a load of people spamming a Xbox forum with comments on the PS3? Because this is what this is like. This is not, and has never been, a board to discuss rotas of people, it is to discuss the visual and musical presentation of television.

This tedious rota discussion by a load of new members is driving away people who have been here since 2001 and that is not right. It should not be encouraged just because it involves people posting.

I've been tempted at times to set up a second installation of phpbb on the metropol server to give a home to these saddos who enjoy such things but i suspect they are of the opinion that their discussion must occur on this board whether or not they're infuriating the majority f the membership with it.

Can something actually be DONE for once about this. We've talked about this over and over again, there is a thread on metropol discussing annoying members on here and one of the main complaints is rota discussion. If it HAS to remain, which I'd prefer it not to, can it at least be relegated to a seperate thread away from those of us who want to discuss the original topic of this board.

It is spoiling the board for me and others, I honestly know NOTHING presentation wise that has occurred on News 24 since the revamp last year. I'm quite sure there have been numerous tweaks but I've missed them trudging my way though "omg tim willcox was on an hour earlier than usual, maybe they're trying him out for news at ten" its infuriating and pathetic and quite honestly damn rude to the rest of the membership to force them to read such crap.

And to those of you who complain that idents and astons are dull, WHY did you join a board that has been discussing such things for nearly seven years? It's easy and cheap to set up your own board. There are others such as digital spy which would probably put up with it in their battle for supremacy of the entire internets but no you decide to RUIN TVF with it. How nice. Maybe you should go and stamp on an old lady's flowers next, its the kind of attitude you're displaying here.

Chill out! Some readers find the techy stuff much more tedious that the real "scoops" that this forum sometimes breaks!

If you're talking about "scoops" such as presenters leaving/moving then I'm actually much more interested in a different coloured ticker. Sad, I know, but that's what this forum is for, in my opinion.

Graphics, titles and sets should be far more important than presenters here. Shouldn't they?

Personally, yes, I can understand the interest in schedules.

But as other have said, it's the speculation about the possible meaning of some very minor change and the inevitable posting of 93 fantasy lineups that tips it over the edge as far as I'm concerned.

Yes they should... but presenters are part of the channels overall presentation.

But not a part that TV Forum was set up for. Asa, correct me if I'm wrong.

As a child I was always really interested when the news got new titles. I was sat there in the dark on my own in the lounge at 5.55am waiting for the first ever Breakfast Time to start. I wasn't interested in Frank Bough and Selina Scott, I was interested in the titles, the clock and the window on the weather with it's computer graphics instead of magnetic bits of plastic.

When I found this forum I was amazed to see that other people shared this interest. The people who post presenter rotas aren't the same people and are spoiling this forum.

This is a forum about graphics though, not presenters. And even if it was it is NOT interesting when Ben Brown appears 2 hours earlier than his usual slot. It is not an excuse to post 50 fantasy schedules and proclaim they are "trying him out" for some random thing.

There is a difference between posting when the entire graphics system crashes than posting EVERY SINGLE TIME they leave the breaking ticker up slightly too long and you get a slight mess with a wrong headline being above a description.

and no I will not chill out. If those readers find the forum's main topic tedious then they shouldn't be here. I find football tedious, therefore I do not join a football forum, discuss computers and then complain loudly when I'm told I'm posting off topic.

Everybody just stop! This is why this forum is going down hill - because everytime someone says or does something someone doesn't like, we end up with pages and pages of arguements - wtf does that have to do with 'TV Presentation' ?

Quote:
With active forums discussing television presentation and news, channel branding, schedules and programmes.

Mistake me if I'm wrong, but that doesn't say this forum is exclusively for tickers, DOGS and titles!

Arrow Programmes are presented, otherwise it would be 30 minutes of silence...
Arrow Schedules often involve regular/ fixed presenters
Arrow Television presentation and channel branding can both be changed, improved or affected by presenters.

But what I don't get, is why some on this forum have a go when presenters are moved or changed, but write pages and pages against the 8pm bulliten when it's not aimed or produced for them or their benefit. You're not forced to watch - so why??? It's like I don't take offence to Your News when I don't believe in user-generated content.

I do not believe 'fantasy forums' have or should have any part on this forum, but that is my personal opinion. You can't expect a forum based on 'community' to always agree nor can you expect a forum with thousands of members on to still be talking about the same things as were discussed in 2001.

Plus the fact that in 2001, there wasn't even a Newsroom section... Web Archive of TV Forum in June 2002.

It's not actually and I don't think it ever has been. You could argue that the TV Home Forum is just about idents, but it isn't, it evolved and actually contains a lot more programme specific content than graphical presentation.

Asa's description is as follows ;

The Newsroom
This is for television news presentation including national and international news channels, presenters and developments.

Well no I'm simplifying things of course. However even if it was only about graphics it the meticulous logging and cataloguing of very minor presenter rota changes that is the problem being complained about rather than discussing presenters at all (which is of course acceptable).

The Breakfast thread is currently talking about the possibility of Mayo taking over from Dermot which is fine. The News at Ten thread is discussing the
presenters for that, fine.

You highlighted itsrobert talking about Willcox a few pages back. I'd even accept that as he does appear to do absurd shifts covering every possible absence. It's not that exciting, its been discussed as much as the BBC World / BBC News logos being the wrong way round but it is still something mildly out of the ordinary.

Talking about every tiny change to the rota of a 24 hour news channel is dull and is taken to extremes. Why don't we go the whole hog and list every change of shift on the continuity annoucements for BBC1? It's dull, it annoys a great number of people and the main defenders of it are the recent members who joined to talk about nothing else and are as bad as the annoying mocks clique we had last year.

This is about presenters, but a question...

Susanna Streeter is at the LSE for this afternoons business. While I know she's presented on Breakfast instead of Declan Curry, is she simply filling in for Declan today (just days after he got his job extended), or is this normal?
