Why the hell is Ben Brown on with Louise atm? I know Jon's in America covering the caucuses but still. I think Tim Wilcox could have more chemistry with a sheep than between Louise and Ben, and he's just awful this afternoon.

Who's on in evenings? You don't think they're trying Ben out for something? Louise did mornings for a week last year and Kate's now disappeared to 90-second fame, a new schedule coming???

What bloody difference does it make? People in all jobs often swap shifts with others for an endless number of reasons. Just because Ben Brown is on a few hours earlier doesn't mean they're 'trying him out' for something. And how is presenting 24 in the afternoon any different from presenting in the evening?

I've got to say that I'm getting really cheesed off with all this talk of presenters, shifts and rotas. It is incredibly boring. When this forum launched in 2001, it was about idents, graphics, music, sets and presenters. Now, it seems as though every thread is taken over by the same tedious discussion of presenters. There is more to being a TV pres fan than that, you know.

Hear hear!

Who's on News 24 at the moment?
NE
News24
Tim has already been on, doing Matthew's shift. Chris Eakin would be a much better bet to bring forward into the daytime schedule to cover - he's done it all before, he's the man for chemistry!

On now are Ben and Louise

Yeh because when BBC News started it had a huge website. Times change - what people want changes. If someone starts a topic about presenters, it is hugely critisised and axed. Well not everyone gives a sh!t about whether a ticker says 'breaking' instead of 'breaking news' ffs. Presenters are incredibly important - thus people have a go at doily (who isn't really that bad) and pages and pages have been written about Sir Trev coming back - how is it different?

Well said - I reckon "has the LIVE strap been moved down a milimetre??" or " Why is Ben Brown doing 2 - 5 instead of 7 - 10?" are surely both valid contributions on this forum??

Personally I agree that both are valid on the forum.

I'm hoping that there will be a new schedule to go with the studio changes to refresh the channel, though I hope they keep the current graphics and music which I'm a big fan of. The 2-5 slot needs changing in my view because Jon and Louise are hardly ever on together, since they both have other commitments, usually only one will be on at a time.

I think it would also be good if the Six O'Clock News Hour was made more consistent, coming from the same studio and with the same presenter all hour, it just seems very disjointed at the moment

Who is the regular presenter of an appointment-to-view bulletin on a flagship analogue terrestrial channel is rather more significant in the big scheme of things than who happens to be doing a three-hour shift on a rolling news channel on a wet afternoon in January Rolling Eyes

It's not to say that there's anything wrong with noting unusual presenting lineups on News 24 - just that the amount of speculation that people generate from the slightest change is sometimes out of all proportion.

But I can't really see NaT being any better for having Sir Trev if he's going after a year! Though I do accept your point that it is different.

When was the last time News 24 had every presenter on their slot? Like noted above, Louise and Jon are hardly on together, Kate's disappeared (though we don't know if she'll be back when she does the one), Jane took ages off of News 24 last year for other commitments and Tim Wilcox/ Nick Owen seem to be on half the shifts each day! I'd rather see Tim Wilcox on a regular slot than Jon Sopel if we know Tim is on News 24 regularly!

THAT I do agree with!!

I think presenter rota rubbish is extremely dull, and should all be immediately deleted as soon as the 'Submit' button is pressed. However, this is just my opinion. The people who do like rotas are in the minority, and should have their own special thread. If people then choose to visit that thread and make fun of those members and cause trouble, then they should be suitably booted out. That seems perfectly fair to me.

I think you're rather missing the point. If you don't like graphics and idents then why exactly did you sign up? We always have been centred around idents, graphics music and presenters but, as Londoner stated, far too much emphasis is placed upon the excrutiating minutiae of subtle presenter changes. When something major happens, then great - discuss it, like TV Forum always has. But, does such a minor change as Ben Brown moving a few hours earlier really warrant discussion? The amount of rota discussion on TV Forum recently is really bordering on obsessive. I can honestly say it is really ruining this place for me. Every thread is seemingly taken over by rota discussion and predictions and the actual TV pres stuff gets ignored.

I agree with that too. We all know the remit of the site - it's very clear. Sure, to some extent, the presenters are important, like anchors for flagship shows. But discussing who is presenting some slot on 24 overnight just because somebody else normally does it is very tedious, and as you say, ruins the threads for everyone else (the majority). Some avoid this forum just because of the things mentioned.
