. Surely News 24 could go for someone off Sky though. Martin Stanford, Allan King and Martin Popplewell aren't used that often so surely the BBC could tempt one of them away to provide cover for News 24, and they'd also be potential replacements for Sissons when he retires.

that wouldn't be wise considering the 2000+ people already losing their jobs at BBC News.

Martin Stanford is the type of guy that everybody respects and gets along well with. He obviously holds quite a bit of influence at sky news centre. His show is one of the few to get individual graphics and the only AFAIK to use the new music.

He is also credited somewhat with exploiting the newswall to it's best effects and to introducing tablet pcs as well. All of which sounds pretty credible when you watch technofile online at sky.com/news which is an additional responsibility.

It's almost as if he's in America covering the US Elections, isn't it?

I heard he's been caught in a compromising position in the hilla-copter. He's currently blackmailing Bill to stay by his man.

Interesting weather presentation at 1955 today.

Darren Bett was being interviewed about the day's snowfall, by (You Know Who) at the desk, rather than him going to the screen and presenting against it, he stayed at the desk and the graphics ran without an in-vision presenter.

Apart from the BBC Weather caption, I thought it worked well.

Yeah, I thought that looked good. Strange how Darren didn't look at the camera in the first couple of seconds? Before the graphics came on? That's what drew my attention to it.

Perhaps he was looking at the 'preview tv'

I think you have all missed the point. The reason for sending a presenter on location to cover a major story is mainly to allow the correspondents and reporters who are based there, or covering the story, to get on with compiling reports, conducting interviews and attend press conferences etc. The presenter can then hold the coverage together, present and do down the line two ways with the studio presenter too.

Of course, a presenter on location also adds some gravitas to the story being broadcast - always good to see a presenter out there - classic example from last year was Jane Hill in the Algarve, Jon Sopel for politics, Ben Brown for disasters and big sports stories, Matthew Amroliwala, Tim Willcox, Chris Eakin and Louise Minchin from time to time too.

Why on earth has News 24 just reported on this video which is over half a year old?! They didn't say anything new about it as it was already known that legal action would be taken over the hijackers. Why didn't they show it just after it happened?

Apparantly the Czech authorities announced today that the people who devised the 'prank' are to be prosecuted - hence the showing this morning, although the explanation given on N24 wasn't clear, i'll agree.
