I presume it's done as a newsworthy event, If there was any significant news event they would leave coverage to BBC ONE, as per the News Bulletins and resume rolling news on News24.

In respect of PMQs it's actually triplecast (BBC Parliament has them too)

There's plenty of logic in simulcasting it as the channels have different audiences - people at home are more likely to watch BBC One in the daytime but people in offices are far more likely to have News 24 on. There's not much developing news today anyway.

Just a quick idea I had. I think it would be useful to position the desk in the centre, and have two large screen in the corners of the set. I know many are going to say why do you need screens when there is a mssive wall to put things on - well, it doesn't matter, you can use both but the screens help break up the boring interior of the set, and give some sort of focal point for the sport/weather/business reports.

I quite like that but if I was them I would add some other 'real' objects (possibly a rail like in the current n24 set or some pillars) just to break it up a little

So are you implying that it's too much effort to press a button to switch channels?

My point is that the BBC are not offering a service to suit everyone. You say the three channels - BBC One/Two, News 24 and Parliament - have different audiences. True, but is the BBC catering for them by providing exactly the same programme on all three of the channels? I'd sooner have the option to watch the special event or not - not be forced to watch it no matter which channel I switch on.

With Joanna Gosling going on maternity leave, I think a new BBC News 24 schedule will be up soon. Here's how I'd have it:

8.30-11am - Simon McCoy & Carrie Gracie
11am-2pm - Matthew Amroliwala & Maxine Mawhinney
2pm-5pm - Chris Eakin & Jane Hill
5pm-6pm - Huw Edwards
7pm-10pm - Jon Sopel & Louise Minchin
10.30pm-1am - Ben Brown

With Kate Silverton moving to weekends, replacing Maxine

If you think Ben Brown so amazing, why have you stuck him in the graveyard slot?

Good point Philip. I'd swap Ben round for Jon then. I think Ben and Louise would make quite a team!

Do we think Sophie will return to the Beeb after her maternity leave and if so will she keep the one? What with the beeb announcing the one's going to be more News 24-oriented, could we see it presented by News 24 presenters? Would make sense to use someone like Jane Hill who other wise is twiddling her thumbs at a desk (though she'd have to be moved away when they move to N6).

I suspect the one's who'll benefit the most out of Joanna/ Sophie on leave will be:

Arrow Louise Minchin (who could move to Breakfast regularly, become the relief for it or move to the one)
Arrow Kate Silverton (a move to Breakfast or the One?)
Arrow Anita McVae/ Emily Maitlis/ Martine Croxall (any of whom could take over from Joanna).
Arrow Sian Williams - though I don't know she'll be moving anywhere and would anchoring the one be a step up from Breakfast? Then again Sophie's moved from Breakfast - Six - One so she must have seen it as a promotion?

Out of interest, anyone have ideas for where Sophie Raworth could move to when she returns? Just because I'm wondering if News 24 will totally produce the one now - from stories to production to presenters? It would make sense and be cost effective! (Though I personally like Sophie on the one)

Just looking at WORLD de-camps to the old N6.

both of the newsroom backdrops look really good.
the 2004 looks the better one in the first 2 seconds of the clip you could
mistake it as N9.
and the 2005 version was made to suite the current set in N9 that looks quite realistic to maybe they should make a backdrop as good as these for when N24 moves there.

the 2004 clip also proved that the bed playing over the titles isnt always a bad thing-I though it sounded quite good.

What are you talking about? It looked really awful with that background.

Anna Ford went from SIX to ONE. Was that a promotion for her? Maybe she jumped at the opportunity to work an earlier shift and have the afternoon to herself?? Would Sian see a move from Breakfast to the One as a PROMOtion or a DEMOtion??

Being the ONE's main anchor could just provide anybody with a better work/life balance. These people have lives/families etc. Maybe it ain't about 'how many viewers are watching me' maybe it's about 'which role suits me' and 'which role am i being offered'?? Dermot stayed on Breakfast for 5 years . . . was that a step up for him from being Trevor's number 2 at ITN???
