my bloody internets screwed - can you copy and paste it into a quote? Embarassed

No. It's the Guardian's copyright material. Quoting a paragraph or two is fine, copying and pasting the whole thing isn't.

It doesn't tell you anything you won't have learnt from reading this thread, anyway, Mr Crocks.

BBC climbdown on news graphics - Media Guardian

"In a move reminiscent of its climbdown over revamped weather graphics, the BBC has been forced to backtrack over the new look for its news shows."

Just a rehash of material from the BBC Editors' Blog, really.

I don't really think shifting the live bug a few pixels so that it's title safe really qualifies as "backtracking".

I liked the CGI on the oscar special. Where you saw movie previews.
It was rather nice. Smile

Heh, I got quoted ("Both the... looks very amateurish...overscan").

Pity they never checked which safe area was the problem - it's the 16:9 safe area (and 4:3, but they're not bothered about that, of course). IIRC, the 14:9 safe doesn't have any overscan vertically at all, just horizontally...

Far, far better than the usual Film24 CGI set up. They even had red cinema seats and popcorn!!! Hope they use this for Film24 from now on. The red 'curtains' either side of the 'cinema screen' fitted in excellently with the News 24 look.

This is what I could see yesterday on my widescreen CRT TV on Freeview:

This is what I can see after today's tinkering:

So we are halfway there, just need to up the position of the ticker and dog/clock bar to where the old one was and it will be fine. (The old ticker used to run flush to the bottom of my screen, but was readable!)

What does the clock look like when shown 14:9 on BBC1 analogue overnight? Bit chopped I would presume?
