could N3/N5 not be used, are they in the newsroom.

N3 was a broom cupboard on the 6th floor - and no longer exists. It was used for the original (entirely CSO) Working Lunch, as an emergency backup, and for complicated sequences that needed a second gallery!

N5 is on the 7th floor near the soon-to-be-closed BBC Online Newsroom and not in the News Centre.

Neither had or have suitable facilities. (N5's original gallery built for the BBC World Arabic service in the early 90s wasn't brought back into service when N5 was re-introduced as a studio for BBCi. Instead a gallery was built in the studio - giving it a tiny floor area. Very poor technical facilities as well. Hardtalk had to bring in their own cameras and lighting when they used it once...)

N3 was also used for the totally bonkers See Hear Breakfast News programme in the mid to late 90s. Somehow the first 15 minutes of the 7 o'clock hour was recorded in N3 then replayed on BBC 2 with in-vision signing. It's ultimate duration relied entirely on what happened in ther Breakfast News running order between 7 and 7.15. I frequently remember the producer of See Hear Breakfast News calling NC2 and saying things like, "We can do 13 minutes or 17 minutes... what's good for you?" The reply, "...erm 15 minutes as scheduled would be great for us" generally didn't go down too well! It often called for nightmare schedule filling to get to CBBC Breakfast Club which for some reason had to start on time... (schools programmes later? Scotland Gaelic opts?) The really interesting mornings were the ones where at 0710, N3 would call NC2 and say their recording had failed and they hadn;t got a programme at all!

Yes indeedy. N3 had one of those new-fangled Profiles installed to record and replay Breakfast News. A CSO screen was used - with a Charisma - in N3 to add signing (I think the signing was added on the replay?). Because the show was based around what Breakfast News was doing during the previous 15 minutes there was no way of keeping it to time without crashing out of something mid way through. (I can't imagine Breakfast News even thought about it...)

It was all done by one person ISTR - they did camera, lighting, vision mixer, DVE, sound and Profile... (All in a gallery designed for different people to do all of these jobs)

There not 10 until 17:30. There has been talk about them being 10 all week and the front page of the forum also pays homage to News 24. We will have to wait until 17.30 to see if there is any mention what so ever, although today there have been some big news stories, so i would understand if they did not.

I was expecting at the very least an article in the entertainment section of BBC News Online commenting on 10 years since the launch of the BBC's first Digital Channel. Maybe they dont see this as an achievement. Radio 1 was forty the other week and bored everyone out of there brains about it.

Would i be right in thinking that Jane Hill & Matthew Amroliwalla are the only two presenters still at News 24 full time since launch? I know Chris Eakin was there in early days but i dont think it was from launch. Maxine is still around but not seen as often these days.

Think Chris was in the launch line-up. Ben Geoghagan and Gavin Esler also still pop up now and again - they were launch presenters.
