Yes N9 was the launch studio for BBC News 24. News 24 moved to its current home N8 in October 1998 when Digital TV launched (and stage 6 at TVC was completed and opened). It was the second "Flags" studio. It adopted the National news branding in October 1999.
I really think this N6 idea is crazy viewers will notice the lack of quality compared to past sets, why dont they close N6 and have the nationals/n24 in N8 and keep N9 open makes more sense.

Viewers, in general, don't give 2 **** about what the set looks like, as long as it isnt distracting, and the viewers are getting their news - they're happy!
ever since last year N6 has looked a compleat mess with the black marker all over the floor to indicate were the sofa goes and the screens have packed up numerous times during breakfast/nationals how are they going to cope with a 24 hour news channel.

For the people who work on the channel N6 will probably be a lot nicer as it is an actual studio and not just a desk perched in the news centre. I myself dont really like the idea of using N6 as i think it will look a bit boring all day long. N8 has activity going on around it giving the feeling its part of something and not on its own. I guess we will just have to wait and see what they come up with as a backdrop (surely it wont be the skyline?)

Lets hope so. My major problem is that they expect the cube to look realistic and all but with great big squares accross the skyline!
I agree that it would be better to send the nationals to a revamped N8 - maybe with some of the screens joining them for reports and the weather, a new desk and a new design. Surely this would be cheaper considering the cost of those television screens 24 hours a day 7 days a week compared with a newsroom view that is actually busy and has to be there!
I would have:
revamped BBC World's studio
revamped N8 (News 24) and maybe extend it slightly to help accomodate the nationals
move the nationals to N8
Close up N6 and move the screens to TC10 (if theres room) to give Newsnight, Working lunch etc. more space. This would also make it easier as a back up for 24/ the nationals.
If they do insist on movin 24 to N6, I hope they refit the screens to hide the lines. Also, why can't the six and breakfast move into TC10 sooner? Surely it would be better to 'refresh' the six at the same time (set/ presenter)? And yes the equipment may be old but surely not older than N6!
Finally as regards to temp studios, I would have thought, to help lower costs, it will go like:
1 and 10 move into N8
Newsnight, Newsround and Working Lunch join Breakfast and the six in N6 while TC10 is revamped/ improved
all of the above move back to TC10, allowing the work to commence on N6
News 24 and the 1/10 move to N6 while N8 is revamped
World moves to N8
That way your preparing 24/ 1/10 for a joint service, grouping the six and breakfast with Newsnight etc and meaning no additional studios have to be rented/ used.

AIUI, the screens are on 24/7 in N6 anyway...
I think they may be switched off overnight these days.

Not sure why people keep mentioning TC10. It isn't a studio that News own or have a lease on, and it is miles away from the current newsrooms, edit suites etc. It is owned by BBC Resources - and may well be part of the sell-off.
