what about a backdrop like the one in old N6 for N24 that looks real enough, but the one currently used when the decamp to there dosent look real at all,I have personally never heard of a newsroom with all of the lights and computers on but with no
body in it. Rolling Eyes

didnt newswatch not get a few complaints about a static newsroom backdrop used on newsnight for an interview somewere, people were saying how un-green it is to have a newroom fully lit with all of the computers and big screens on with no body home.

Well tonights combo is new ...

Gavin Hewitt and Martine Croxall.

He looks very uncomfortable - eyes all over the place. Absolutly terrible. Great reporter though.

going back to the 'whatthehellwillwedoiftheresbreakingnewsduringthe1,6,10?' thing, why can't they just use (or create another) small screen used for news headlines on the Andrew Marr show etc. for N24 to switch to in an emergency?

But I think the argument is that if the news is important enough to have an emergency studio on stand-by then surely it's important enough to get a mention in the national bulletin - all it takes is ten seconds to read the line and may be direct viewers to bbc news online or say 'there will be more on this story throughout the evening on bbc news 24'.

Does anybody have any idea actually how big the current nationals studio is. Like the diemnsions for it.

It has been said repeatedly the problem is not a location to break away to, it's staff to produce the second output that would be needed.

However, would one or all of the following be possible to be run from the gallery staff that would be on duty producing the One, Six or Ten...

1. News breaks during the One/Six/Ten - straps appear on 24 (already happens now)

2. An important press conference/statement occurs during the One/Six/Ten - could this feed, accompanied with sufficient explanatory straps, go out on 24 while BBC One carried on with the One/Six/Ten? Could an out of vision voice over say at the end, "That was a press conference, full analysis at the BOTH, now we go back to the One/Six/Ten"...

3. Video coming in to the building of a breaking new story, say somewhere being bombed - could this go out on 24 with commentary from out of vision presenter?

If these could be done then this would be a satisfactory answer to the problem.

I can't tell you exact dimensions, but it is not that big. I stood in N6 when the 2003-2006 set was still in there and it was very small. I believe since the set changed in 2006, it feels a bit bigger but it is still fairly small. Remember, wide-angle cameras make studios look huge on TV when in reality they are fairly small. On TV, BBC World's 2000-2004 newsroom/set looked fairly large, but in reality it was rather pokey.

This is the studio right? Well couldn't they just get another sofa and coffee table. I think that would be best, that way you've got a nice area for sport, business and big interviews, and then you've got the seperate news desk area, although being a bit small, is quite adeqate - IMO that's a problem which coud be overcome really.

The big sofa would get in the way when they were presenting at the screens.
