They're left on all the time anyway - and when they simulcast World, that gives them plenty of time to do any (rare) repair work.

Yeah I would think they would change the floor before breakfast and the 6 moved in.

Yeah, if they make good use of the wall, with proper story related graphics/pictures, then it'd look cool.

Aren't you the one that used to moan about sky's newswall?

What I think used to be stupid about the Sky Newswall was the way they had a 12 foot head on the wall with a presenter stood right next to it looking up talking. Looked ridiculous! They use it better now with the 'big head' on the wall in the distance with the presenter in the foreground. Gives better persective that way.

Relevant backgrounds on the newswall are often very good, as is the scrolling 'breaking news'.

So any dates for this Noggin?

All likely to have on-screen implications from after Christmas I believe - with it completed by June / July.

Why so long? There are no changes needed to studios.

Don't know what gives you that idea. All three studios involved require re-equipping (most of their kit is around 10 years old - or older in some cases) - particularly in areas like vision mixers, digital video effects gear etc.

Ah, didn't know about this - which is nothing to do with the studios being moved around, surely it'd have to have been done anyway.

The current BBC One gallery and set are not designed for a 24 hour news channel so will need modification to house News 24 and work with a different staff model. This will require piloting.

Why does the set need modifying? Present from the desk, use the wall to the side for sport, weather etc.

[The current News 24 set is likely to be replaced before BBC World move in - and that will take time as well.

What's wrong with BBC World using the 24 set - I thought the BBC were trying to save money for God's sake!

Yes you are right - but the current set up would only work for a temporary fix.
N24 needs the capability it has now plus it does lots of stuff on the Big Board.
So you need a new bigger - more oval desk to get up to 6 people round.
You also have to take into account Business/Sport and guests, Sportsday, Film Review, N24 Sunday (for the summer)
These all need set up time - so you need to be able to shoot the main set in a way that you can get on with setting up the new 'soft area' to accomodate these parts of the programmes.
So some small tweaks to N6 are needed for a rolling news channel.

Yep- I think another baking tray with a soft set would really be all it needs.

Apologies if this has been mentioned, but why do I hear phrases like, 'thanks for joining us here on News 24' more and more? Is it really necessary?

I suppose it's because N24 is a channel that people flick onto now and again and don't watch all day so it's nice to be invited in to what's happening. It also gives them permission to repeat the headlines they visited 15 mins beforehand. Just my thoughts!
