I think the reason the Six is being treated differently is because this is clearly becoming a very very high profile programme for BBC News, and probably has been for quite a while.
Surely the obvious reason is that the One can't come from TC7 because Working Lunch is in there, and the Ten can't because Newsnight is in there.
I always regret questions like this, but where is the BBC Four/BBC World "World News Today" broadcast from?
N9 (BBC World). Basically, if the news presenter during a normal bulletin looked past the cameras in front of them, they'd see the second set, used for WNT, WBR, Sport Today etc. I don't know if they still do this (I only saw the old pre-2004 N9) but they used to swing the cameras round from the main set to the second set - that gives you an indication of how close they are. I don't know whether they now have dedicated cameras for that set since it is used far more frequently than it once was.
I posted this in the TV Centre thread also, but It was mentioned yesterday that the BBC World Newsroom (N9) would close, with BBC News 24 moving to N6 (National Studio) and BBC World moving to where News 24 currently comes from...

I don't think that N24 should move to N6. I think it should stay in N8 as it does have a feeling of immediacy with the news as it's situated by the newsroom. Instead I think that BBC World should move to N6 instead although I suppose it may be a bit tricky recording all of BBC World's additional programmes unless they split the studio in half.
With the suggested move, the main problem I can see is that there is no provision for N24 to opt-out of the nationals, which I think should be done if there's any significant news occurring around the time of the nationals.
All likely to have on-screen implications from after Christmas I believe - with it completed by June / July.
Why so long? There are no changes needed to studios.
Don't know what gives you that idea. All three studios involved require re-equipping (most of their kit is around 10 years old - or older in some cases) - particularly in areas like vision mixers, digital video effects gear etc.
The current BBC One gallery and set are not designed for a 24 hour news channel so will need modification to house News 24 and work with a different staff model. This will require piloting.
The current News 24 set is likely to be replaced before BBC World move in - and that will take time as well.
None of this work can happen simultaneously - it all has to happen consecutively - as services have to remain on-air throughout.
With the moves that are going to occur, do you think its possible that they'll rejig the News 24 time slots? Say extending the morning shift to midday, with the 1pm news presenter presenting from 12 through till 2 or whatever? The 11-2 slot always seemed a strange time slot to me, what with the One interupting it, at least with the Six and Ten they are 'markers' between one slot and another.

I guess they'll say something along the lines of...
"In a moment viewers on BBC1 get the news from where they live, whilst the news continues on News 24. But first its time for the weather with [insert name]"
...for it to work smoothly I think the weather would need to be done 'out of the newsroom'. Then at the end of the weather on BBC1 they could hand over to the regions whilst News 24 could use a sting (or similar) to rejoin the studio.
