The countdown has been shelved because it features Natasha Kaplinsky quite prominently.

Interesting stuff. Will be interesting to see if this encourages a move to a more blank canvassed countdown to avoid situations like this.

Surely it would have been made in 16:9?

Although the problem with using the World countdown is the bit at the end. Even the music differs to accompany the voiceover.

That seems the obvious answer, anything better than the current non countdown.

Surely they could've just drawn some devil horns on any images Kerplinksy appears in? I'd be surprised if we didn't see a new countdown botched up by tomorrow tho.

Presumably that is because they have to hit the top of the hour dead accurately to allow World and all their affiliates to opt-inc cleanly. If they were ditching the countdown during the day they may have been hitting the headlines at slightly before or slightly after the to of the hour?

It was orginally 4:3 on World in 2005 , with Squashed numbers eg. Then they fixed numbers eg. Then ended up adding black bars and then the numbers are squashed again! eg

The early BBC World countdowns were good cos of some of the footage, sadly removed though because the certain correspondents have moved on. So if Navdip Dhariwal (who presented for her 2nd time last night on World) left the BBC, then BBCW would need to entirely remix all the countdowns cos she appears at least 3 times in each version.

Are countdowns back this morning, sans Kaplinsky or otherwise?
