.........Stage 5 (also known as The Spur, where TV News moved to after Alexandra Palace I think - the original two news studios N1 and N2 are now TC10 and TC11) and finally, Stage 6.

I'm sure someone has answered this before, but was there ever N3-N5 and what are they now?

I thought the simulcast with the BBC One bulletin was quite smoothly handled really. Abit confusing for anyone watching on News 24 as the background in N6 was changing though.

They were not in N6 for the bulletin on BBC One they were in News 24 land. They did not move into N6 until 1pm on Saturday afternoon.

Who's presenting with Louise at the moment? Never seem him before.

Stuart Flinders, of BBC North West Tonight fame. Very capable and a safe pair of hands - good to see him being given a shot at national level.

Thanks. I agree, he seems very comfortable on News 24.

There were 3 studios on the 6th floor - two large-ish studios N1 (now TC10) and N2 (now TC11) which were originally shared by the One, Six, Nine and Newsround, when they all had different sets. Then when the virtual blue era arrived, Breakfast News/Business Breakfast and the One, Six and Nine all came from N2 on a shared set (Business Breakfast had its own set opposite this), Newsround moved out to a main block studio at some point, and BBC World moved into N1 from their previous tiny studio on the 7th floor which had been used since the launch of BBC World Service Television.

N3 was a smaller studio on the 6th floor - used as a backup, was also home to Working Lunch in its entire CSO original era, and also used for things like signing and as a sub-gallery for effects that required more facilities than a single gallery could offer. (ISTR that the flying fish fingers 9 opening sequence needed two galleries to do the headlines?)

N4 was the code-name for the BBC club, and no studio was ever thus named.

N5 was the home of the original BBC World Arabic service in the mid-90s, and was on the 7th floor. It was closed when the BBC pulled the service after concerns of editorial independence from the Saudi owners of the platform it broadcast on. The studio was re-opened, and has since shut, as a home for BBCi interactive video services. The original N5 gallery was not used, instead the studio was partitioned and a small gallery, with very limited facilities, built in the space created.

I'm glad to see Stuart being asked to do News 24. He's been an excellent presenter and reporter for NWT for many years. I thought he would eventually take over from Gordon Burns to front NWT but I wonder if he'll jump that step straight to London? If you take a look here you can see he's been on NWT since the early 1990s.

Emily Maitlis is a great presenter with a good sense of humour. Hopefully News 24 will use her more.
