Yes i remember that power cut it was gavin esler and michel burk at westminster the 9 was on bbc one N24 and world kirsty came from N6 with newsnight an they simlicasted for the rest of the night.

the 2003 power cut was better when they presented N24 from tC7 when it still had the breakfast set assembled.then they handed over to carrie graicy in westminster who also presented the 1 that day insted of anna ford.

No she didn't, she was joined by Darren Jordon who presented the 1 o clock news from Westminster, as well as some of the News 24 output with Carrie.

And to prove my point, the section on TV & Radio bits:

BBC News 24 is currently showing programmes with a "BBC World" DOG but with the clock still showing... I think it's a bit obvious that it's a mistake as it's still meant to be the 10 o clock news hour...

EDIT - The clock, DOG and ticker have now been removed... - and a minute or so later - the clock and ticker are back, but with the News 24 DOG!

Wonder why we don't take the "few more" headlines too.

Because it's automated I think - besides, you aren't missing much.

And regarding the .45 headlines, during the first showing of WBR (00.30) and ABC's "World" News (01.30) we get them due to the break, but for the 04.30 WBR we just get a promo and back to the programme.

Does N24 have a different version of WBR than BBC World's, with more UK related business stories? Does it come from the same studio as World's WBR?

These days it is a straight repeat of the BBC World version - which comes from the BBC World studio in London, and the BBC New York studio.

There used to be a BBC News 24 version called Business Today - but it was axed to save money. (Though how much it saved is debated)

Ah yes, Business Today. Didn't that launch in 2001 originally? It was quite some time ago now. It was initially presented by Nils Blythe from the second N24 set (first red/cream studio) before being relaunched and presented by the on duty WBR London/New York presenters. It was then axed for a repeat of WBR from BBC World. If I recall, the only thing left from Business Today is the headline bed - it's still occasionally used for the biz round-up on N24.

I was watching News 24 at 23.30 last night when QT Extra came on. It immediately struck me that Chris Eakin could not have watched QT on BBC1 as he was presenting N24 live at the time. To me, that seems a little dangerous. He's recapping what happened in the BBC1 programme and is reading viewers' comments and speaking to guests about issues in the programme. If he hasn't seen it in the first place (unless QT is pre-recorded, but I thought it was live) how can he have a good knowledge of it? I know there will be a journalistic team working on the programme but when something goes wrong live on air, the presenter is the one who often has to rescue themselves. I predict he could be left with egg on his face at some point...

Question Time is recorded as live a few hours in advance, ususally around 8 o'clock. Very minimal editing is done.

Ah that's OK then. Chris Eakin will have ample time in which to watch QT before he goes on the air on N24. Before I knew that, I was quite surprised that the BBC would take a risk like that!

Anyone know if this is a planned move for the weekend?

I'm sure they were in the normal place for Breakfast this morning.

They moved into N6 at 1pm. Everything before this was as normal.

I thought the simulcast with the BBC One bulletin was quite smoothly handled really. Abit confusing for anyone watching on News 24 as the background in N6 was changing though.

When it happened the other weekend someone earlier in the thread mentioned that they were using the N6 gallery when it came from N6 - but it wasn't equipped the same as N8's gallery. Is there any reason why News 24 can't come from N6 and N8's gallery is used?

Or would that not work?

Also - are all the news studios, N6, N8, N9 etc all in the same place in TVC - in the "Stage 6" news centre?

No, N8 is located in the Newsroom.

N8 and N6 are in Stage 6, also known as the News Centre. There isn't an 'N7' to avoid any confusion between TC7 which News also have use of - TC7 is in the main block of the centre. N9 is actually in Stage 5. When the IRA Taxi bomb went off, although initially a joint news service was set up from Millbank, it relocated to N9 the next morning. Staff were allowed to work in N9 because it was in Stage 5 and therefore not off limits, as the crime scene was deemed to be the whole of Stage 6.

By the way, the word 'stage' in this instance refers not to "Film Stages" (as is common in the US and at some studios in the UK) but simply the stages at which TV Centre was opened! Stages 1-3 being the design and main studio block, Stage 4 being TC8 and a few other bits, Stage 5 (also known as The Spur, where TV News moved to after Alexandra Palace I think - the original two news studios N1 and N2 are now TC10 and TC11) and finally, Stage 6.
