Who is that woman presenting on News24 alongside Matthew what-ever-he's-called? She is extremely patronising and talking to the correspondents as though they can't understand!? I for one will be sticking with Kay Burley

I wonder if that's a true story on the BBC Home Page, where Laurie Margolis, former colleague of Clarence Mitchell recounts the time when Mitchell, who was then an overnight newsreader on News 24, fell asleep one night and was unable to appear on set to anchor the 0300hrs bulletin.

Instead, a BBC Producer had to go on air and read the news!

Clarence Mitchell is now, of course, the official spokesman for the McCann family.

Here's a link to the story:

Indeed - and all of us who remember seeing it (live or as recordings) must have imagined it Wink

And the best things was seeing Clarence walking into the newsroom, in the back of shot, wondering what was happening

Yes that is from the 2000 power outage at TVC. The music in that clip was never used on the channel (someone has added that themselves). That caption didn't appear until around 19:00 (channel died at about 18:10 along with the Six O'clock News which it was simulcasting due to the loss of the N24 studio a little earlier). The Sky Search & Scan banner also got updated to read something like "We apologise for the loss of service" I still have a far bit of the 2000 power outage on tape somewhere. 20.00 Was a recorded BBC World News and 21:00 onwards was live from Westminster. BBC News 24 & World effectively became one channel for the rest of the night. Newsnight did come from TVC but from N6. I think the first program to come from TVC on a normal basis was Breakfast the next morning. Think most of the staff were bussed out to Westminster and Birmingham.

Yes i remember that power cut it was gavin esler and michel burk at westminster the 9 was on bbc one N24 and world kirsty came from N6 with newsnight an they simlicasted for the rest of the night.

the 2003 power cut was better when they presented N24 from tC7 when it still had the breakfast set assembled.then they handed over to carrie graicy in westminster who also presented the 1 that day insted of anna ford.
