I think the baking tray would look out of place on the N24 set, with it being so curvy and circular. They could opt for a circle shaped baking tray, a bit like what AJE have in their Doha set.
Now that you mention it seamus, I think LED's would look great, maybe if they were on the white parts of the pillars.

The BBC One gallery has had the ability to do the same animating Viz lower thirds as News 24 for quite some time. It was installed, but not used, the last time News 24 were there AIUI.

So why don't they use them on BBC One bulletins then?

Aren't the cameras in N8 remote controlled and thus have this extra unit on the cameras so how do they get around the issue of height? I don't recall anything to lift the desk and chairs up so the only thing I can think of is that the desk and chairs are taller than those in N6.

The desk is on a platform.

Edit:

Here's a horrid mockup of the LED thing I was talking about:

It would animate, but it looks good still, almost reminds me of the flas era in some way.

Because the VIZ Engine that would be needed to make them work has not been installed. N6 can control N8's VIZ engine and hence generate lower thirds, and as soon as the 2nd VIZ engine has been installed will be able to use them as well and replace Big Ted Astons.

My memory was playing tricks on me - Seamus has confirmed that the News 24 set also has rostra. It hasn't always, and neither has the BBC One set. As a result the shots on these sets were noticably worse in eye-line terms.

Well imagine N6 without a baking tray. It'd be quite bare. It's quite surprising how much the baking tray does to the set. I don't know anymore than what I told you. This is a bit random, but I think hat would be cool is if in the newsroom, they replaced the red and white bits with LED panels spread out, and they would have the titles or something animating on them I guess that would work out better on World.

Though the cost and noise generated by LED panels can't be underestimated, and they have to be a fair distance away for the relatively coarse pitch of the LEDs to disappear.

(This is why you don't often see close-ups of Sky presenters when they are stood at the news wall - as it is significantly lower resolution vertically than a normal standard def TV signal)

The baking trays (love that name), whilst I understand the technical reasons for them being there, are great design features anyway. They break the floor space up well, and help provide clear distinct areas for different sections of the set.

Apologies - my understanding was that the engine was installed but not commissioned (something to do with software licensing?)

The Viz machine is installed and has been used several times when World have been in N6. It is licenced as a backup so can only be used when the main viz in either N9 or N8 is out of service.

Well I'd imagine they would be quite far away, about as far away as the Sky LED's, but alot smaller, and with a higher density, like this:

Didn't sport come from one corner of TC7 without a baking tray during an N8 or N9 closure a while back? Looked a bit strange
